
Traffic Signals and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Technician

This is a fantastic opportunity to work at the heart of Reading’s transport infrastructure, supporting the design, implementation, and maintenance of intelligent transport systems (ITS) including traffic signals and CCTV.

About the Role:
You will play a key part in supporting the operation and optimisation of Reading’s Urban Traffic Management & Control (UTMC) systems, including technologies like SCOOT, MOVA and Variable Message Signs (VMS)
As a Traffic Signals & ITS Technician you will assist with traffic signal controller testing, site acceptance testing, and the modelling of complex junctions to improve traffic flow. Your work will also involve helping to design and implement traffic control schemes, contributing to technical reports and drawings, and supporting the planning and coordination of events that impact the highway network.
Additionally, you’ll liaise with internal teams, neighbouring authorities, and external stakeholders to ensure the smooth delivery of intelligent transport solutions across the borough.
What We’re Looking For:
- A strong interest in transport systems and willingness to work towards relevant qualifications (e.g. NVQ in electrical work or ITS).
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in a technical or office-based environment with the ability to manage a varied workload.
- A full UK driving licence (or working towards one) and willingness to work occasional out-of-hours shifts.
