DIO Regional Delivery Overseas & Training delivers facilities management, training estate services, and performance assurance across Canada, Kenya, Belize, Germany, Norway, Brunei and Nepal. We work closely with military users, suppliers, and DIO Operations teams to ensure safe, compliant, and effective training environments.
We are seeking a Training Safety Officer (TSO) to support the Sennelager Training Estate in Germany. The postholder will provide ‘safe place to train’ assurance, enabling units to conduct effective training while ensuring compliance with Defence Safety Authority regulations. You will also act as a key focal point for assurance inspections and support deconfliction and allocation of training areas, including NATO Forward Sennelager.
This is a 3‑year tour, extendable to 5 years with agreement. The position is full‑time at 37 hours per week.
Job description
The Training Safety Officer will:
- Provide ‘safe place to train’ support across Sennelager Training Estate, including enabling training activity and delivering first‑party assurance of training facilities.
- Monitor and assure compliance.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of the Safe System of Training and user requirements.
- Liaise with the Range Allocating Authority to ensure integrity of Range Control outputs.
- Lead on daily checks, range and training infrastructure inspections, review of risk assessments, updates to Range Standing Orders, and coordination of 2nd and 3rd party inspections.
- Act as lead officer for Range Control, including assurance of activity documentation, RDA trace checks and Daily Safety Summary assurance.
- Lead on allocation and deconfliction of Defence Estate training areas.
- Provide line management to assigned staff.
- Serve as the focal point for Range Control administration, processes and personnel.

Person specification
This is a dynamic and demanding post. The ideal candidate will have:
- A proven record in delivering or supporting a “safe place to train” through direct or transferable skills.
- Experience planning and delivering large‑scale training, applying military judgement to assurance and safe delivery in an overseas environment.
- Experience working in a training estate environment with large training audiences.
- Familiarity with Defence range documentation including DSA 03, Range Standing Orders and site‑specific risk assessments.
- Understanding of regulatory publications and experience ensuring compliant training estate infrastructure.
- Experience preparing for and supporting external assurance inspections, along with incident reporting and management exposure.
- Experience working with mixed civilian and military workforces, with an understanding of Diversity and Inclusion responsibilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills, confidence in engaging with diverse stakeholders, and the ability to prioritise resources effectively
