RVDescription
Leicestershire Police are currently recruiting transferee Sergeants (lateral transfer).
At Leicestershire Police, we pride ourselves on recognising people with real potential. It’s the reason we offer our officers so much support, motivation and training; because as they improve, so will our force.
On joining Leicestershire Police, you’ll find that we can help you realise your ambitions and develop your career. Our Team Leicestershire Academy have aligned their new Inclusive Leadership Development Programmes with the College of Policing National Framework to offer a comprehensive programme that supports the development of all of our officers and staff at each level.
In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to raise your profile and take on serious policing challenges in a unique and picturesque setting that balances busy urban centres with rural villages. The people are equally varied and represent a diverse range of ethnic cultural and economic backgrounds.
If you are high performing and looking for a new challenge, then this could be the place for you. Although opportunities at senior ranks are limited, we will consider your skills and experience against any available opportunities within force, for the potential of a lateral transfer.
Transferring from a Home Office Police Force, you will retain:
- Your previous service and current levels of pay (excluding force specific benefits i.e. London weighting).
- Annual leave entitlement, as long as there is no break in service.
- Your current pension arrangements.
Leicestershire Police is committed to improving the diversity of our workforce to better reflect the communities we serve. We welcome applications from all minority groups, those with additional language skills that are spoken by our local communities, such as Gujarati, Punjabi and Polish and individuals who identify with one or more of the protected characteristics as defined by the Equality Act 2010. All appointments will be made on merit.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Be a member of a Home Office force or Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) or Police Scotland (please note we cannot accept an application to transfer from an officer serving with a non-Home Office police force.
- Be substantive in the role of Sergeant or currently completing your WBA (work based assessment)
- Please note certain specialist roles, have particular essential eligibility criteria.
- If you are a re-joiner, you will be required to undertake a 6-month probation period. If you are re-joining at a different rank or you left your previous force more than 1 year ago, you will be required to undertake a 12-month probationary period.
- Re-joiners at the same rank will re-enter the service on the pay scale point at which they left their previous force. Officers re-joining at a higher or lower rank will have their pay considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Have a full manual driving licence.
- Have no outstanding discipline or integrity issues.
The Recruitment Process:
Stage 1 - Your application:
Please complete the full application form. You will need to provide evidence of why you wish to transfer to Leicestershire Police and the challenges that you think you may encounter. You will also be required to upload any police qualification you may hold such as OSPRE or NPPF at the time of your application.
Stage 2 - Interview:
You will be interviewed by two senior officers who will assess you against the Competency and Values Framework and also your commitment to Leicestershire Police and the challenges that we face as a county.
Stage 3 - Pre-employment checks:
If you are successful at the interview, you will be invited in for a medical, drug and fitness test. If you pass these, we will also carry out vetting checks and contact your current force HR department and line manager for employment references. Vetting level will be dependent on your rank and role.
Stage 4 Final offer:
Provided that you meet the above checks, we will write to you offering you a position with us and organise a start date.
If you have any questions, please direct them to Leicestershire Police HR Workforce and Succession Planning (HRWorkforceSuccessionPlanning@leics.police.uk)
Please note we reserve the right to close this process at any time, should our required numbers be met.
