At FCDO Services, we protect the UK’s interests at home and overseas. We design and construct secure government buildings, courier diplomatic packages worldwide, safeguard government tech, and a whole lot more. Our work is as varied and vital as it gets, but we never lose sight of our people. Their skills, aspirations and growth mean as much as the global mission we're on. In our world, it all matters.

Job description

Protecting government assets is a big picture operation for us. That’s why our Technical Security team is made up of all kinds of talent. From security design engineers creating solutions for global threats to technical installers guarding the UK’s most sensitive assets in real time, this team provides the full spectrum of protection for the UK around the world. Now, you’ve got the opportunity to join them.

Keeping people and information safe

Solving unique problems

Broadening your horizons

It all matters

Train others to be security-minded and protect the UK’s interests

As a Senior Technical Instructor within our Academy, you’ll design, prepare, update and deliver high quality specialist Technical Security Countermeasures (TSCM) training. You’ll be educating FCDO Services staff, government staff and friendly foreign governments on the latest technical security threats and how to protect against them. We collaborate widely across the private and public sectors and deliver training through a variety of means including workshops, conferences, National and International exercises. Whilst you may therefore have an opportunity to travel both within the UK and overseas to deliver specialist technical training, the majority of your time will be spent delivering training from our purpose built facility at Hanslope Park.

You will teach a subset of TSCM courses specific to your skills. You’ll be part of a small, driven team, focused on innovating for the future to defend against technical attack. As the Academy expands and develops, you may train across a wider spectrum of technical disciplines. Where you have developed deep technical expertise, you may spend time supporting research and development projects in between training delivery. Crucially, you’ll proactively ensure that courses are current, relevant, and include the very latest in defensive measures. You’ll collaborate with NACE and other relevant stakeholders to undertake horizon scanning and research activity – using this to update course content. Occasionally, you’ll join NACE or Government Partner inspection teams or to carry out operational duties.

You’ll also gain an industry recognised “Train the Trainer” qualification, such as a City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Education and Training.

Bring self-motivation and strong technical expertise

We’re looking for a self-motivated, passionate and professional candidate, keen to take on the responsibility of delivering vital training that positively impacts National and International Security. Either in the UK or abroad, you’ve delivered TSCM services and have a broad knowledge of Technical Security more generally. You have real-world experience and are ready to impart that experience on others. You’re adaptable – tailoring your training to the needs of our wide and varied customer base and you can translate technical requirements and specifications into easily understood business concepts, and vice versa. You have a level 3 qualification in a STEM related discipline eligible for IET membership.

Discover the support you need to grow your career further

Working with us you’ll help keep people, information, and assets safe around the world. It’s a role you can feel proud of; and we aim to make every part of your career just as rewarding. That’s why when you join us, expect to receive a competitive salary, good holiday entitlement and a Civil Service Pension. Along with this, you’ll also have access to training and other development opportunities to help grow your career with us. Our offices have an on-site gym, nursery, café, and restaurant, and we offer interest-free loans on season tickets and bikes to help you get there. It's a great set of benefits made to support all you do, and all you need.
