Calderdale Council is seeking a highly motivated Vehicle Services Manager to lead our Vehicle Services function, ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant operation of a diverse fleet of more than 200 vehicles and plant assets. From HGVs and minibuses to electric vehicles and specialist equipment, you'll play a critical role in supporting essential frontline services across the borough.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who combines strong technical knowledge with excellent people management skills and a passion for continuous improvement.

About the role
Reporting to the Transport Services Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of vehicle maintenance operations, fleet compliance, workshop services, driver management and depot health and safety. You'll lead a dedicated team and help shape the future direction of our transport services.

Key responsibilities include:
• Managing the Council's vehicle workshop and Vehicle Services function.
• Ensuring all fleet vehicles and equipment remain roadworthy, compliant and fit for purpose.
• Protecting and maintaining the Council's Operator's Licence compliance standards.
• Leading fleet procurement, replacement programmes and vehicle disposal activities.
• Managing budgets, performance monitoring and service improvement initiatives.
• Overseeing driving-at-work compliance and driver training arrangements.
• Managing taxi vehicle compliance, pre-compliance testing and MOT operations.
• Ensuring high standards of health, safety and operational performance across the depot.
• Preparing reports, plans and performance information for senior management and stakeholders.

About you
We're looking for a leader who can inspire teams, manage operational priorities and maintain the highest standards of safety and compliance.

You will have:
• Significant experience managing staff and performance within a transport, fleet or vehicle maintenance environment.
• Strong knowledge of relevant transport legislation and Operator's Licence requirements.
• Experience of fleet management, budget monitoring and delivering customer-focused services.
• Knowledge of health and safety legislation and its practical application.
• A recognised Level 4 qualification in Vehicle Maintenance, Transport Management or equivalent experience.
• A Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Haulage, or a willingness to work towards achieving it.
• A full UK Category B driving licence.

Ideally, you will also have experience of workshop operations, procurement processes, facility maintenance and hold additional vehicle maintenance qualifications.
