The Opportunity

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Visiting Officer to join our Team. This is a dynamic role involving fieldwork across the borough to inspect properties, verify Council Tax and Business Rates liabilities, and ensure accurate records are maintained. You’ll be a key player in supporting fair and efficient revenue collection, working closely with internal departments and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections of residential and commercial properties.
  • Issue Completion Notices and submit proposals to the Valuation Office.
  • Verify eligibility for discounts, exemptions, and reliefs.
  • Investigate undelivered mail cases and confirm property usage.
  • Maintain accurate visit records, upload photographic evidence, and liaise with landlords and letting agents.
  • Collaborate with Planning and Building Control teams to identify property changes.
  • Support account maintenance and liability assessments for Council Tax and Business Rates.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to engage with the public and stakeholders.
  • Experience in a revenues, compliance, or property inspection role is desirable.
  • Comfortable working independently and managing a flexible schedule.
  • Proficiency in using IT systems to record and update property data.
