Billing and collection of Council Tax has never been more important here at Woking and we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic professional to join our Council Tax Team as a Revenue Officer on a permanent basis.
The Revenue Officer will be part of a team responsible for the billing, collection and recovery of Council Tax and Business Rates. You will be customer focused, empathetic but assertive and confident in communicating both verbally and in writing, in order to deliver successful outcomes for customers and for the Council.
The Team currently work on a rota basis which involves a combination of home and office working.
Reporting to the Revenues Team Leader, the Revenues Officer will support the Customer Service team by providing advice and support for Council Tax and Business Rates queries. The role will also help to maintain our records so that we can issue bills promptly and accurately. This will include:
· Setting up new accounts and closing old accounts
· Granting exemptions and discounts
· Taking payments
· Answering both written and verbal enquiries
· Assisting in activities relating to the billing and collection of Council Tax and Business Rates
The successful applicant will be flexible, adaptable and possess the ability to learn complex legislation. Previous experience of working within a Revenues/Customer Service environment is desirable although not essential, as full training is provided. You will be working from the office primarily to ensure you are supported into the role, until you have the skills and confidence to work independently.

As Head of Revenues, Benefits and Tackling Inequality, you will lead the strategic and operational delivery of Council Tax, Business Rates, corporate debt collection, and welfare benefits— which collectively serves and affects every resident and business in the borough -ensuring both efficiency and a high-quality experience for residents. You’ll champion the design and implementation of Haringey’s new Tackling Inequality model, working collaboratively across council services, external partners, and the voluntary sector. A key part of your role will be owning and driving the Council’s Ethical Debt Collection Strategy, developing innovative approaches to prevent and manage resident debt corporately, improve payment accessibility, and ensure timely access to welfare support and advice. You’ll set ambitious performance targets and lead cultural and operational transformation to deliver measurable improvements and savings. Advising elected Members and enacting policy priorities will be central to your remit. You’ll also oversee the collection of over £340 million in income and the administration of £250 million in welfare benefits annually, while leading a team of approximately 140 staff.

You’ll be joining a leadership team who are passionate about high quality services for residents and will report directly to the Delivery Director for Tackling Inequality. In this pivotal leadership role, you will oversee and manage approximately 140 staff members, with three roles reporting directly to you. We have an exciting employment opportunity to recruit a permanent Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction Scheme Officer with a minimum of 2 years’ recent experience. 
We are looking for an individual who has an indepth knowledge of processing complex assessments, such as Universal Credit, Self-Employed, Students, and Persons from Abroad. You will also help those on low income to sustain their tenancies ensuring their benefits are fully maximised. 
You will be part of a committed enthusiastic team, focused on high performance and working to challenging financial and operational targets. 
You will work using your own initiative and prioritise conflicting deadlines, manage your time efficiently with good communication skills. You will need a good standard of numeracy and literacy, effectively responding to enquiries received by letter, telephone and e-mail. 
You will need to understand and be responsive to customer’s needs, always presenting a positive and professional image to the customer, whilst ensuring effective engagement with vulnerable and challenging customers. 
The Contracted hours are 36 hours a week and we offer a flexible working hours policy which includes hybrid working.
