Permanent (4 vacancies) Ref: F1029 The Revenues and Benefits Service provides the statutory functions of collecting Council Tax and Business Rates, alongside administering applications for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support. Following a review of the Service, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Revenues and Benefits Team.&nbsp; The Council are seeking four customer focused individuals who will be able to help us deliver the Service in a new way by working across all the areas that we deliver to residents. You will have good written and verbal communication skills and should be&nbsp; able to communicate with a wide range of people.&nbsp; You should have patience with customers and good listening skills that can be used to resolve residents’ queries. You will have the ability to complete tasks in a pressurised environment and work with little supervision. You will be required to work on a wide range of tasks including the processing of Housing Benefit applications, Council Tax Support applications and the collection of Council Tax and Business Rates. In return, the Service will offer full training, access to flexible working (including hybrid working) and the opportunity to study for professional qualifications in Revenues and Benefits with the Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation. While previous experience in a similar role is desirable, we welcome applications from candidates with transferable skills and a strong willingness to learn. The role is primarily working in Council Tax, with knowledge in Benefits and Business Rates as secondary knowledge areas.
The post holder will support the&nbsp;Revenues and Benefits Team Leader for the Revenues and Benefits team to ensure work processes, standards and compliance are completed efficiently and effectively and continuously improved.&nbsp;
The post holder will need to manage cases allocated on workflow and ensure cases are resolved as quickly and efficiently as possible.

This role attracts a salary at Band 3 between £28,724 - £31,724. &nbsp;Depending on experience, offers are usually made at the lower end of the salary band allowing for progression.&nbsp;This salary excludes the 2025/26 pay award which is to be confirmed.

Office working will be needed full time during any initial training period but once completed, the successful candidate will be able to work from home part of the working week on a rota basis with colleagues. </ul> About YouRequired essential experience/ qualifications/ skills and abilities<ul>
<li>Minimum 18 months Housing Benefit experience which must be within the last 3 years</li>
<li>Experience of working on a front line customer service</li>
<li>Able to understand Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction Regulations to ensure the prompt and accurate assessments and payment of Benefits.</li>
<li>Able to follow set procedures and adapt quickly to new or changed legislation or&nbsp; procedures&nbsp;</li>
<li>Able to work as part of a team while maintaining and prioritising your own workload.</li>
<li>Able to compose replies to correspondence or customer enquiries regarding Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction or free school meal matters</li>

You will be an experienced benefits assessor, who is organised, flexible, and adaptable, especially when juggling priorities. You can demonstrate high accuracy skills and be able to work effectively and efficiently. Knowledge and experience of benefits capita academy systems will be an advantage.
Whilst the key focus is benefits and this is your area of expertise, you will receive training to enable you to apply accurate and efficient council tax and benefits assessments, aiming to make a real difference to people’s lives. Your hours of work will be Monday- Thursday 8.45-5pm, Friday until 4.45pm.
