We are delighted to advertise the position of Visitor Assistant and are seeking individuals who are passionate about delivering high‑quality, welcoming and inclusive services within our Culture team.

This customer‑facing role involves working alongside the Rutland County Museum and Oakham Castle team to provide an excellent visitor experience, offering a friendly and professional service to the Rutland community and visitors to the county.

About you…

To be successful in the post you will need to have:

  • Experience in a similar role, working face to face with members of the public
  • Good communication skills
  • Educated to GCSE in English & Maths
  • Able to work without direct supervision, sometimes as the only member of staff on the premises
  • Interested in Heritage & history

About the role…

As the Visitor Assistant your duties will include:

  • To undertake administrative and facility management duties; serve visitors
  • Assist with the delivery of weddings and events
  • To provide a high standard of customer service
  • Locking and unlocking sites and setting alarms
  • Cash handling
  • Some physical & cleaning work will be required

Please note that whilst we need specific cover on a Saturday, the post holder will need to be flexible to work as part of the rota.

Please note there may be some occasions when events are being held in the Museum or Castle, that the post holder may need to finish later to assist closing down the event.

Visitor Assistant interviews will be held during week commencing 18 May 2026.
