Are you passionate about promoting the attractions of South Derbyshire and the National Forest?

South Derbyshire District Council is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Visitor Information Manager to lead our Visitor Information Service and help grow the visitor economy of South Derbyshire and the National Forest.

Tourism plays an increasingly important role in South Derbyshire’s economy, supporting businesses, town centres and rural communities. Around one third of the National Forest lies within the district, attracting more than 8 million visitors each year. This is an exciting opportunity to help showcase the area and create memorable visitor experiences.

You’ll work closely with residents, visitors and a wide range of visitor economy businesses, including event organisers, accommodation providers, travel companies, leisure and retail enterprises.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and develop the Visitor Information Service and its activities.
  • Manage the South Derbyshire Visitor Information Centre and a small team of staff in Swadlincote town centre.
  • Promote South Derbyshire and the National Forest through the Visit South Derbyshire website, social media and printed materials.
  • Respond to and generate enquiries from residents, visitors and potential visitors.
  • Engage and support visitor economy businesses in promotional activity and signpost them to advice and support.
  • Contribute to destination marketing, visitor monitoring and reporting.
  • Oversee secure and accurate financial and payment processes.

What we’re looking for:

  • A proactive, customer‑focused individual with excellent communication skills, both face‑to‑face and online.
  • Strong knowledge of South Derbyshire, the National Forest and the wider Derbyshire area and their attractions.
  • Resilience and strong organisational skills to manage a small team and premises.
  • Confidence using IT systems, social media platforms and website content management systems.
  • Experience or a strong understanding of the visitor economy and destination marketing.
  • Someone who shares the Council’s values and commitment to excellent customer service.

You will be required to work weekends and occasional evenings and Bank Holidays on a rota basis. A full, current driving licence and access to your own vehicle are essential.

Apply now and help grow the visitor economy of South Derbyshire and the National Forest!
