Salary: £32,188 per annum to £38,997 per annum dependant on experience plus Essential Car User (ECU) Allowance*

Reporting Office: Manchester, Trafford

Persona: Agile Worker: 20% - 40% of contractual hours to be worked from reporting office/working location (hybrid)

Join our Foundation Customer Support Team at L&Q:

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Customer Support Team within the L&Q Foundation. We are seeking an experienced Welfare Rights Officer, who will become part of a highly skilled and specialist team of welfare benefit advisers.

You will be responsible for managing a high and complex caseload, delivering specialist and professional Welfare Benefit advice to L&Q tenants. The role offers a vital and much needed support service to L&Q tenants, aiming to improve financial situations, avoiding poverty and helping sustain tenancies.

Your impact in the role:

  • You will assist customers with identifying and accessing any unclaimed welfare benefits, with full support offered from entitlement assessment, application through to appeal stage. This will be achieved by carrying out diagnostic interviews with tenants, in a professional and empathetic manner, evidence gathering and accurate case management recording.
  • You will work closely with internal teams and develop partnerships with the Local Authority, Community Support Services and the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP).
  • You will contribute to the Team’s targets and goals by progressing casework in an effective and efficient manner and ensuring timely resolutions for our tenants.

What you'll bring:

  • Comprehensive and high level of knowledge and understanding of the Welfare Benefit System, Welfare Reforms, Case Law and Procedures in relation to Welfare Benefits
  • Ability to analysis and investigate complex welfare benefit problems and seek appropriate solutions to maximise customer entitlement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to draft detailed Tribunal submissions
  • Ability to communicate complex Laws, Regulations and policy information clearly in a way that customers and the wider organisation can understand
  • Strong understanding of poverty and social policy issues and its impact on service delivery

As the role will require you to undertake regular home visits on a weekly basis it is essential that you hold a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle that is insured for Business Use.
