About the role
We are looking for a motivated, compassionate and resilient individual to join our busy Housing Options Team, working as a Welfare Support Officer. As a Welfare Support Officer, you will provide targeted support to families with children living in temporary accommodation (TA), helping to improve their quality of life, access to services, and educational and health outcomes. Everyday will bring new opportunities to make a positive impact, including:
- providing tailored support to improve families’ wellbeing, stability, and access to local services
- helping households register with GPs, dentists, schools, and other essential services
- assisting families facing financial hardship and supporting them with grants for essential household items
- empowering families to integrate into their community and access education and health support
- working collaboratively with accommodation providers, partner agencies, and other professionals to deliver the best outcomes
We are looking for a pro-active individual who is able to take an innovative approach to problem solving, is an effective negotiator and can provide a high quality of service to customers with housing problems.
You will have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively to customers, accommodation providers, partner organisations and other professionals. Providing a high quality of service and customer care to all groups of the community is essential. You will also provide support with administering grants to assist with essential household items and accessing education.
Crawley is a great place to work, with a thriving business district and excellent transport connections including nearby Gatwick Airport. We are based in our modern Town Hall which opened in 2023 and is located a short walk from the town centre and railway station.

Additional information
The post is for a fixed term contract for 12 months.
Working hours are 18.5 hours per week, and the full-time salary displayed will be pro-rated in accordance with the part time hours of the post.
On occasions, candidates will need to be flexible to work outside of the hours of 9-5 to meet the needs of families.
A full and current UK driving licence is desirable, but not essential.
Satisfactory clearance of a Basic Disclosure and Barring (DBS) check will be a condition of employment.
