Job Description
YEAR 1 CLASS TEACHER
Scale: Teachers’ Main Scale
1. a) To actively promote and support the Catholic ethos of St. Peter’s School in line with the School Mission Statement. To lead the pupils by example so that our Christian/Catholic ethos permeates the whole of our school life.
b) To deliver our “Religious Education” curriculum as prescribed by the new Religious Education Directory. To seek support, when necessary, of other members of staff, especially the R.E. Subject Leader and Headteacher
2. To register the attendance of pupils and make SLT aware of any issues.
3. To take full responsibility for teaching the prescribed National Curriculum, with specific reference to the priorities of the School Improvement Plan.
4. Teach according to the educational needs, abilities and aptitudes of pupils within the class
5. To take full regard and responsibility for:
• The preparation of medium term and short term plans following whole school agreements/schemes of work.
• The preparation and marking of work of all pupils in the class.
6. To assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of pupils in the class.
7. To communicate and consult in a professional manner, both informally and formally, with the parents of pupils in the class ensuring that the SLT are made aware of all developments.
8. To communicate and co-operate with outside agencies and attend meetings as required. Ensure that SLT are always made aware of any developments.
9. To attend staff meetings and Collective Worship assemblies.
10. To safeguard the welfare of all pupils by maintaining good order and discipline among the pupils, both on school premises and during offsite visits, in accordance with the School Policies.
11. To take responsibility for subject leadership, according to school policy in consultation with the Headteacher.
12. To work under the reasonable direction of the Headteacher following the School’s Performance Management process.

Ability to:
Innovate and motivate children
Work as part of a team with colleagues within the school and the locality

Assess children’s needs and devise plans to address them
Be flexible in teaching approaches depending on the needs of the children and the curriculum
Skills:
Excellent interpersonal skills
