What will you be doing?

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Kent Youth Justice Service.

We have a permanent full-time Youth Justice Practitioner position available in East Kent.

This is an area-based role covering the Thanet and Canterbury districts of East Kent. You will be working with young people aged 10 – 18 years who have come into contact with the Criminal Justice System. Travel is essential to deliver our service, therefore, applicants must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle.

The purpose of your work will be to reduce the risk of re-offending in accordance with the agreed intervention plans and in the context of managing risk of harm to others and vulnerability issues. As a member of a multi-agency service, you will work in partnership to:

  • Complete assessments.
  • Complete reports for Court and panels.
  • Work directly with young people, and their families, with a diverse range of needs, to complete interventions as part of their statutory programme.

The role also includes regular attendance at Youth Justice team, and multi-agency, meetings for the purpose of prevention and risk management. You will be expected to be part of the service’s duty rota, attending Youth, Magistrates, and Crown Courts regularly.

This role is subject to holding a Full UK Driving Licence – The Council is committed to making reasonable adjustments so whilst this job requires the jobholder to drive your application will still be considered if you are unable to drive due to a disability.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.
