Youth Justice Practitioner- Victim Liaison Officer

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join an ‘Outstanding’ Youth Justice Service as a Victim Liaison Officer on a permanent contract. The service received a maximum score in the HMIP Inspection in January 2026, with the report noting ‘work with victims was a significant strength and took an individualised, responsive, and sensitive approach. The YJS understood the importance of high-quality provision for victims and were passionate and committed to this area of work. Victims had a high profile in the service, and their safety, needs and wishes were considered consistently by all staff across the organisation.’

As part of this job, you will play a crucial role in ensuring victims feel heard, supported and safe. You will be responsible for managing a caseload of victims and will provide them with information, updates and assistance to ensure their voice is heard and their needs are met.

Key responsivities of a Victim Liaison Officer

  • Manage a caseload of victims, being their point of contact following a child committing an offence and receiving an out of court resolution.
  • Gaining the views of victims regarding how they have been impacted by a crime, assessing their needs and safety and supporting them to move forward.
  • Providing one to one support to victims through in person visits, telephone calls and e-mails.
  • Representing the voice of victims in decision making panels for children to ensure their voice is heard and their views and needs are taken into consideration.
  • Woking alongside multi-agency partners to gather and share information to ensure victims are kept safe.
  • Keeping victims updated at key points throughout a child’s out of court disposal.
  • Delivering victim awareness sessions to children who have offended.
  • Facilitating direct and indirect restorative justice between victims and children including face to face conferences, shuttling and restorative letters.
  • Writing victim assessments and keeping an accurate and up to date electronic record of contact.
  • Sourcing reparation sites across the East Riding to ensure children’s reparation hours give back to the local community.
