An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Tokko Youth Hub Team, as a Youth Worker. This is a great opportunity to join The Tokko Youth Hub Team at a time when we are moving into a new stage in our organisational growth. We are excited to meet candidates who want to join us on this journey.

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? We are looking for a dedicated and dynamic Youth Worker to join our team and support children and young people aged 11–19 across a diverse, multi-cultural urban community.

In this vital role, you will build meaningful relationships, deliver engaging activities, and provide targeted support to young people who may be experiencing challenges such as disaffection, underachievement, or social and emotional barriers to learning.

About the Role

As a Youth Worker, you will:

  • Work with young people both one-to-one and in group settings, offering support, guidance, and opportunities for development.
  • Engage vulnerable and disengaged young people and their families, helping to build confidence, resilience, and positive pathways.
  • Assess needs, analyse information, and create evidence-based action plans that support young people’s personal, social, and educational development.
  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate creative, reflective, and inclusive youth work activities.
  • Work independently and as part of a multi-agency team, collaborating with partners to achieve the best outcomes.
  • Build strong relationships with key staff and professionals, offering challenge where appropriate to effect positive change.
  • Maintain high standards of communication, administration, and record keeping.

About you

We are seeking someone who has:

  • Substantial experience in statutory and/or voluntary youth work with young people aged 11–19 in a multi-ethnic urban environment.
  • Experience supporting young people facing social, emotional, behavioural, or learning challenges.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to engage young people from diverse backgrounds.
  • The ability to reflect on and develop their own practice.
  • Strong ICT skills for communication, presentation, research, and documentation.
  • A thorough understanding of Equal Opportunities, particularly in relation to young people from diverse communities.
  • Sound knowledge of Safeguarding, Child Protection, and Health & Safety.
  • Understanding of youth-related evidence-based practice and legislation in at least one of the following areas:
    • Anti-social behaviour / youth offending
    • Child Sexual Exploitation
    • Teenage pregnancy / sexual health
    • Substance misuse
    • Domestic abuse
    • Radicalisation / extremism
    • Bullying
    • Gangs / youth violence
    • Mental ill-health
    • Neglect / toxic trio
    • Missing or runaway young people
  • A recognised professional youth work qualification or relevant degree, with suitable competencies and experience.

Working Requirements

  • Ability to work up to four evenings per week.
  • Ability to travel and work across a range of locations within the borough.
  • Comfortable working outdoors, including street-based environments where you remain visible and accessible to young people.
