Question 2

What types of organisations hire facilities staff?

Accepted Answer

Local councils are the biggest employers of facilities staff in the public sector, covering everything from civic buildings and leisure centres to housing estates. Schools are another major employer: many hire Site Managers, Premises Officers, and School Facilities Managers directly. You'll also find facilities roles with central government departments such as the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Defence, as well as emergency services, social housing providers like Peabody and Places for People, and charities. Because every public sector organisation needs its buildings managed and maintained, facilities is one of the broadest categories for employer variety. Browse facilities jobs to see who's hiring right now.

Question 3

Are there part-time or flexible facilities jobs?

Accepted Answer

Yes, around a third of facilities jobs on our board are advertised as either part-time or flexible working. Part-time roles are particularly common in schools, where positions like Premises Assistant or Site Supervisor often involve set hours around the school day. Flexible roles include casual and relief positions such as Casual Facilities Assistant or Relief Caretaker, which suit people looking for ad hoc work. Full-time roles still make up the majority at around 66%, but if you're looking for something that fits around other commitments, there are plenty of options. Use the filters on our facilities jobs page to search by working pattern.

Question 4

Can I find entry-level facilities jobs?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Facilities is one of the more accessible public sector categories, with plenty of roles that don't require specialist qualifications. Entry-level positions include Facilities Assistant, Attendant, Concierge, Estates Operative, and Premises Assistant, with starting salaries typically around £24,000–£26,000. There are also trainee and apprenticeship routes. We regularly list roles like Trainee Facilities Events Officer and Facilities Officer Apprentice. Many employers value transferable skills and a practical, hands-on attitude over formal qualifications. If you're looking to get started in facilities, browse our current listings.
