The Look Out Discovery Centre is a very popular visitor attraction with a hands-on science and discovery exhibition, gift shop, coffee shop and play area, set in 1,000 hectares of Crown Estate woodlands.

You are enthusiastic, confident and reliable, someone who enjoys engaging with people of all ages and backgrounds. You thrive in interactive environments and have a genuine passion for helping children explore and enjoy science, whether this is working independently, or as a valued member of a supportive team.
You will take pride in providing an excellent visitor experience and assist children with hands-on science activities, ensuring their visit is not only fun and educational but also safe and well-organised.
About the team…
Located on the doorstep of the picturesque Swinley Forest, The Look Out Discovery Centre is a hands-on science centre dedicated to inspiring children to enjoy science through approximately 100 interactive science exhibits and discovery shows.
Our team is passionate about science and we work together to make every visit engaging and memorable. We support each other’s growth by sharing knowledge, refining our science show delivery, and lending a hand when challenges arise. As an Explainer, you will be part of a team that goes the extra mile to ensure every visitor enjoys a hands-on, exciting, and safe science experience.
Key responsibilities…
- Present our science shows to booked groups and the public.
- Host birthday parties in the science exhibition.
- Welcome customers at the door, being sensitive and taking the initiative in assisting and caring for the needs of the visitors.
- Maintain high standards within the exhibition, undertaking cleaning duties to ensure exhibits and facilities are clean and look their best.
- Facilitate the experience of visitors in the exhibition, assisting in the operation of exhibits and helping visitors to gain a better understanding and advising of their educational content in an informal and non-threatening way.
- Develop new skills through a programme of training and development.
- Run children’s birthday parties and present shows or other activities that are on offer to the visitors.
