Do you have an interest in the outdoors? Would you like to be in a role where you can make a real difference to the environment in which Newark and Sherwood residents live, maintaining open green spaces.
We are now looking to recruit an enthusiastic, hard-working person to join our Street Scene Team as a Grounds Maintenance Operative. In this role, you will be working with an experienced team who really care about the role they play in making Newark and Sherwood Cleaner, Safer and Greener. You must be prepared to work in all weather conditions, to accept varied duties, to be flexible in your approach to work and have the ability to adapt to changes to your workload.
You will join a team dedicated to maintaining the District Council’s open spaces, including parks, play areas, playing fields and amenity areas, to a high standard. You will have grounds maintenance skills and powered tool and plant operation experience for example: strimming, ride on mowers and pedestrian mowers.
Candidates must also possess a full manual driving licence as the roles will drive Council vehicles across the district.
This is a full-time role working an average of 37 hours per week over the year. Your actual hours will, however, vary depending on the time of year. You may be required to work some weekends as directed by the supervisor/line manager when there is a business need. For example (but not limited to), if there is an event in the district or to cover unplanned absence.
We’re an ambitious, forward-thinking Council with strong values and a culture of doing our absolute best to serve our customers. We are proud of our organisational culture and receive positive feedback from our employees. We have a programme of internal activity to ensure that the voices of our employees are always heard and that they are kept informed on all Council activity and events. From roadshows to an annual award ceremony, from reviewing working arrangements to our Hug in a Mug initiative, it is incredibly important our employees are shown how valued they are and that they remain the beating heart of our workplace.
We offer:
- Enrolment in the career average local government pension scheme.
- A generous annual leave entitlement that increases with service.
- Family-friendly benefits.
- One days’ paid volunteering leave.
- Lifestyle benefits platform.
- Funded health cash plan.
- £10 a month gym membership at one of our four gyms in the district.
You will be working with a professional, committed and experienced team who are passionate about supporting us to deliver the objectives as outlined in our Community Plan.
