Inspire and be inspired

Our mission is to ‘inspire learners and change lives’ – and that includes our staff. We want to empower our teams so pupils are ready to be kind, confident and impactful world citizens. To help us, we wish to appoint an experienced and qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant to support our Inclusion department across both the infant and junior schools.

The Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) is one member of a team of professionals that will include teachers and other teaching assistants. The team works together to care for and educate the pupils in the school. The HTLA makes a specific contribution to the school inclusion team and reports to the Assistant Headteacher (AHT) for Inclusion. Their role will include supporting the schools’ strategic plan for Inclusion and will include supporting the AHT with administrative tasks as well as taking a lead role in supporting support staff.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a qualified and experienced HLTA
  • Supervise/cover classes (instead of a supply teacher) at short notice in the absence of a teacher (unplanned absence)
  • Manage a team of teaching assistants and supervise the work of other teaching assistants and contribute to their on-the-job training and their continuing professional development
  • Have effective communication
  • Be confident working with students who have a range of SEND
  • Ability to adapt or modify interactions to meet pupil needs
  • Ability to summarise and present information from observations of pupil performance
  • Effective time management, planning and collaboration
  • Ability to provide a structured activity within a group setting
  • Understand group dynamics and how to apply them
  • Ability to recognise the range and implications of factors that impact pupil behaviour
  • An understanding of the behaviour patterns that might indicate problems such as substance abuse, bullying or child abuse
  • Active in wider community inclusion for children with special educational needs and an interest in developing a career in education

In return, we offer:

  • High quality professional development
  • Supportive and friendly colleagues
  • Flexible working opportunities
  • Staff assistance programme including virtual GP appointments, counselling service, legal services
  • Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
  • Cycle to work scheme
