Education Welfare Officer

We are recruiting an Education Welfare officer at Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Working hours: 37 hours
Contract Type: Full Time/ Term Time Only/ Fixed Term until 31^st March 2026
Location: Ty Penallta

This is an exciting opportunity to join Team Caerphilly and provide support across the wider School Improvement Team.

We pay an attractive salary of £30,179.42 - £32,572.56 pro rata and offer access to training and development opportunities.

As part of a team the successful candidate will support schools, pupils and parents in order to ensure regular attendance at school or other educational setting and within the context of social inclusion and safeguarding, undertake case work, aimed at promoting inclusion.

The postholder will also work in collaboration with schools/other educational settings and other partners to improve attendance rates and reduce the number of young people becoming Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET)

The successful candidate will establish and maintain regular contact with the staff of the schools and refer cases to and liaise with other statutory or voluntary agencies, including the police, medical and social agencies where appropriate.

For the role, we ask that you have:

• A Relevant Level 3 qualification on the Credit and Qualifications Framework for Wales for example BTEC or NVQ.
• Knowledge and understanding of current education legislation and National policies and practice, particularly Inclusion and Pupil Support.
• The ability to be effective in a role that discharges the Authority’s statutory responsibilities.
• Experience of engaging schools and other partners in relation to complex issues associated with disaffection.
• A full UK Category B (Cars) driving licence and the use of a motor vehicle insured for business purposes to travel throughout the borough to visit schools and attend meetings.
