We have an opportunity in a varied and interesting role, to support local democracy, work with and alongside local politicians and senior officers across all departments, as well as to provide advice and information to members of the public.</p>\n<p>Whether you are looking for your first job in this area or want to build on your experience, we are looking for people who:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Are highly motivated team players with excellent administrative skills who are accurate and pay attention to detail, but also able to work on own initiative</li>\n<li>Have strong ICT and English writing skills</li>\n<li>Are highly organised with the ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure, able to prioritise their own workload and operate with limited supervision to tight deadlines.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>The successful candidate will work across all aspects of the democratic process, with specific responsibility for either the organisation of public meetings which will also include but not be limited to: co-ordinating the production of agendas and reports; attending meetings; taking minutes; and supporting Councillors and senior officers.</p>\n<p>This is a career graded post. We will support your development and you will develop a solid knowledge of the constitutional and legislative framework for local authority decision making and an ability to provide detailed advice to elected members and senior officers.</p>\n<p>This role will be based in the Council offices in Staines-upon-Thames, however we provide working arrangements that will enhance your work-life balance including home working, dependent on service need. The permanent position role requires attendance at evening meetings on a rota basis. This post is identified as a hybrid post supporting both office and home working in line with Spelthorne Borough Council’s policy. The post holder will be required to attend the office in line with a rota and any service requirements.</p>\n<p>The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for customer facing posts.  These posts fall within the scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers.  The Council, therefore, has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.
