Public events help to boost the local economy by attracting residents and visitors; raise the area’s profile; help to create jobs; support community spirit; improve mental and physical wellbeing; provide platforms for culture, education and fitness and most of all, offer fun experiences.</p><p>Public events across North Somerset are organised by community, voluntary and professional groups and organisations, so the level of support required varies. The Council has a smart process from initial enquiry; to support organisers to provide required paperwork to appropriate standards, to consulting specialist advisors within the council and emergency service partners, to checking and providing feedback, right through to post event debrief. Every event, and every site is different, so flexibility and critical thinking are essential.</p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities:</strong></p><ul><li>In this role, you will undertake technical assessments of events organisers’ paperwork and processes and use critical thinking to select the correct process to follow.</li><li>You will follow the agreed process, building up and maintaining a good knowledge of processes, regulations and policies to support your work.</li><li>You will use excellent communication skills to inform and advise organisers and engage internal and external stakeholders in the events process.</li><li>You will support organisers to develop the scope and range of events to meet the Council’s corporate aims, and Economic and Placemaking objectives.</li><li>You will carry out financial transactions, research and report writing when required.</li><li>You will also have the confidence to suggest process or service changes when appropriate.</li></ul><p>Full training will be provided on the processes and online software which the team uses daily</p><p><strong>Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is an essential condition for this role.</strong></p><p></p><p><strong>This position is currently based at our Town Hall office in Weston-super-Mare. </strong></p><p></p><p><strong>Work Style</strong></p><p>At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. We are looking to employ a flexible driver who are as passionate about our service as we. Community Meals drivers are more than a delivery person, they are in some instances the only contact our clients have with another person during their day. As part of the delivery service you will complete a welfare check, for example ensuring that the person is warm during winter months, or has sufficient drinks in warmer weather, reporting any concerns to the Business Support Team. We deliver our service for 363 days of the year, which includes weekends and Bank Holidays, pausing on Christmas Day and New Years Day. Join us and contribute to making a positive impact on our community.</p><p></p><p><strong>The Role</strong></p><p>To provide flexible cover for staff absence.</p><p>Community Meals is a hot meals service provided by North Somerset Council to people within North Somerset who have difficulty in preparing and cooking hot meals. We are looking to employ a flexible driver who are as passionate about our service as we. Community Meals drivers are more than a delivery person, they are in some instances the only contact our clients have with another person during their day. As part of the delivery service you will complete a welfare check, for example ensuring that the person is warm during winter months, or has sufficient drinks in warmer weather, reporting any concerns to the Business Support Team. We deliver our service for 363 days of the year, which includes weekends and Bank Holidays, pausing on Christmas Day and New Years Day. We currently have 2 kitchens, so you may drive from our Castlewood Kitchen based in Clevedon, or our Weston kitchen based in Worle Where a Council vehicle is used, to undertake vehicle safety checks and routines, reporting incidents as required in accordance with North Somerset operational policies</p><p></p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities:</strong></p><ul><li>To ensure daily work instructions are acknowledged and both planning and preparations for operational deployment are undertaken.</li></ul><ul><li>To effectively deliver community meals services to our clients in accordance with a journey plan, timetable and/or a delivery manifest, in a timely manner and with a person focused approach.</li></ul><ul><li>To undertake client welfare checks at each visit in line with agreed protocols and instructions on the schedule/plan, reporting any incidents and communicating any variances in accordance with council policy.</li></ul><ul><li>Where a Council vehicle is used, to position, collect and return the vehicle from multi point locations.</li></ul><ul><li>To maintain a current, valid driving licence (minimum of a Category B) and submit this routinely for review.</li></ul><p><strong>This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. </strong></p><p></p><p><strong>Valid driving licence </strong></p><p></p><p><strong>This position is currently based at our Castlewood, Clevedon @ Worle kitchens. Please be advised that Castlewood will be closed by September 2025. Consultation is currently underway to determine the new location for colleagues based in Castlewood. This will be at Weston-Super-Mare or within North Somerset.</strong></p><p></p><p><strong>Work Style</strong></p><p>As a Community Meals delivery officer your working style falls into the mobile working category.</p><p></p><p><strong>About You</strong></p><p>We are looking for caring, compassionate individuals to work in a front facing person focused service within the Community Meals Team. You should be confident in working independently but also a keen team player. Being a clear and strong communicator that offers experience and understanding of supporting people who are older and / or disabled will be beneficial to the role. We are keen to invite interest that can demonstrate transferable skills within your career to date although full training and continuous professional development is offered.</p><p>Under the direction of the Lead Driver and / or Community Meals Team Manager, to deliver high quality customer focused services that supports the work of this service.,. Duties will typically include delivering hot and cold meals within a prearranged, structured schedule to clients, where needed, plating meals and ensuring a hot / cold drink is available; in addition, checking that the person is well, and reporting any concerns in line with North Somerset procedures. Where a Council vehicle is used, operating fleet vehicles and taking them into the garage as part of a scheduled service plan.
