Are you passionate about live performance and events? Do you thrive in a fast-paced, technical environment? Join the Reading Arts Team as a Stage Technician and play a vital role in delivering exceptional events across some of Reading’s most iconic cultural venues.
Join the Technical Department to work on get-ins, get-outs and performances and ensure the smooth running of all types of performances and events at The Hexagon Theatre, Reading Concert Hall and South Street Arts Centre.

About the Role:
As a key member of the technical team, you’ll help bring a wide range of events to life – from theatre and music to comedy and conferences. Based at The Hexagon but working across all Reading Arts venues, you’ll be responsible for the setting up, preparation and operation of staging, scenery, and flying systems.
You will be joining the team at a time of transformational change at The Hexagon, with plans to develop the much-loved venue to include a new Studio Theatre, opening in 2027.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on a varied programme of live events in a supportive and skilled team. You’ll help shape the experience of performers and audiences alike while developing your technical knowledge across multiple venues.
This role requires a flexible approach to working hours, including regular evening, weekend, and bank holiday shifts as part of the event schedule.

Responsibilities will include:
- Taking on the role of Duty Stage Manager, with overall responsibility for all technical aspects of the show.
- Deputising for the Stage Manager and Technical Manager where necessary.
- Supervising casual staff
- Implementing Health & Safety and emergency policies and procedures
- You will be required to do some heavy manual work
- Use ladders and access equipment and work at heights of up to and including 10 meters.
About you:
- Considerable recent full-time experience in similar work
- Previous experience in dealing with visiting companies and hirers
- Previous experience of first line maintenance of technical equipment
- Exemplary timekeeping
- Full clean driving licence
