Falkland Islands","locationType":3,"description":"<p><strong>Quality and Deputy Manager – Microbiology Speciality </strong></p>\n<p><strong>King Edward VII Memorial Hospital</strong></p>\n<p><strong>Falkland Islands</strong></p>\n<p>The King Edward VII Memorial Hospital is looking for an experienced Quality Manager and Senior Biomedical Scientist with Microbiology as their main discipline to work in a friendly and supportive team which provides excellent care for patients and clients.</p>\n<p>The King Edward VII Memorial Hospital is the principal healthcare facility in the Falkland Islands, providing primary care and a broad range of elective and emergency secondary care services as well as providing Food and Water testing for various industries within the Islands. </p>\n<p>The hospital is well equipped with ambitious plans being developed to expand and upgrade facilities, located in a vibrant and unique community situated in the South Atlantic surrounded by stunning natural environment.</p>\n<p><strong>The Role</strong></p>\n<p>You would be working in a multidisciplinary laboratory where you would be expected to participate in the out of hours On-Call system which averages to one week out of three being On-Call.</p>\n<p>This role itself has a dual function.  As Quality Manager the post holder will be responsible for maintenance and improvement of the laboratory quality management system (for both Food, Water & Environmental section and Clinical Pathology section) which is essential for achieving and maintaining accreditation.  Additionally, the post holder would be expected to deputise for the laboratory manager during periods of annual leave or sickness.</p>\n<p>The food and water testing section of the laboratory is required to work to standards listed in ISO 17025 and is essential to Falkland Islands’ Fish and Meat export industry and this role plays a key part in delivering accreditation of this service provision.</p>\n<p>As a multi-skilled Senior Biomedical Scientist, the post holder will be part of a team that provides a high quality clinical diagnostic pathology service that meets appropriate standards (ISO 15189) and will take part in the provision of the of the multi-disciplinary pathology On-Call rota.  You will be expected to contribute to the in-house training of staff and general progression of the laboratory skills mix.  Ideally the applicant will have specialist level experience in Microbiology with some experience in Haematology and Biochemistry. Training in the other disciplines covered in the lab will provided to the successful applicant to a level that is adequate for the provision of routine and out of hours testing services.</p>\n<p><strong>The Person</strong></p>\n<p>We are looking for people with:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>A BSc in Biomedical Sciences or related subject</li>\n<li>A relevant MSc</li>\n<li>Health Care Professions Council (UK) registration</li>\n<li>An Institute of Biomedical Science Specialist Diploma</li>\n<li>At least 3 years’ experience working in a clinical laboratory and preferably at least 1 year of managerial experience</li>\n<li>Experience of developing, implementing and managing formally recognised Quality Systems; familiarity with ISO15189 and ISO17025 would be beneficial.</li>\n<li>Experience of working with LIMS systems within a laboratory framework</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>The Package</strong></p>\n<p>An attractive remuneration package is offered which includes:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>A base salary of £42,141 - £52,055 plus enhancements for unsocial hours and On-Call.</li>\n<li>This position has been granted an 11% (£4,635 – £5,726) market supplement uplift of base salary for the first year, and may be added for subsequent years subject to review process. Ideally that will include red meat EU approved establishments and a good knowledge of EU food producing legislation.
