<h4> Job Description </h4>Overview The London Borough of Harrow is seeking a Principal Private Sector Housing Officer to carry out enforcement functions, including enabling the Council to meet its statutory obligations of environmental protection through inspection, enforcement, education, and advice, operating in a customer-facing front-line environment representing Harrow Council in often challenging circumstances, performing enforcement functions between 25% to 40% from an office base and between 60% to 75% from site-based visits to premises in Harrow Council while carrying appropriate equipment, working as part of an enforcement team in accordance with statutory requirements and in compliance with relevant Council policies and procedures, and representing the Council as a duly authorised Officer to educate and work in partnership with relevant internal and external organisations to enhance the safety and wellbeing of the public. About You The successful candidate will have:<ul><li>Environmental Health Degree or relevant level 6 qualification or direct evidence of relevant and substantial experience in two or more disciplines and managing a complex caseload.</li><li>2 or more advanced level qualifications and maths and English at GCSE.</li><li>Have an excellent knowledge of the range of legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection Team as well as a excellent knowledge of the range of legislation enforced by the wider Public Protection Team. Duties include investigating environmental crime such as fly-tipping, abandoned vehicles and other anti-social behavioural issues; gathering evidence, interviewing people, responding to customer concerns and taking appropriate action in order to achieve the desired outcome.&nbsp;
The successful applicant will have a background knowledge in environmental legislation; be able to communicate effectively with members of the public and to manage potentially confrontational situations.
Applicants must have a full, valid driving licence, GCSE level at grade C or above or NVQ Level 2 in English and Maths and be computer literate. &nbsp;They must be totally committed to customer care and be able to deal with the public diplomatically in difficult situations without being intimidated.
