Knowsley Council is an award winning Local Authority, named Local Authority of the Year in the Municipal Journal Awards 2024. Come join us and be part of our success.
There is an exciting opportunity to join the Knowsley MST-CAN [Multisystemic Therapy for Child Abuse and neglect] as a Family Resource Specialist.
We are looking for a dedicated and resilient person to join our small and friendly team.
MST-CAN works with the families of children open to Knowsley Children’s Social Care who are at risk of removal due to physical abuse or neglect. We work with the families by following the MST-CAN model, aiming to significantly reduce risk so that children can remain safely at home.
You must therefore have the skills to work with both children and adults facing multiple and complex difficulties, and the tenacity to continue to work with families despite being faced with reluctant engagement or typical trauma responses. You must also be open to entering homes where there can be significant levels of neglect
You will play an important part in service delivery, helping families to overcome practical barriers such as housing and debt so they can access the MST-CAN intervention. You will be directed tasks by the Therapists, but must also have the initiative to follow through pieces of work independently whilst communicating updates appropriately to the Therapist and Supervisor via weekly paperwork and clinical supervision.
You will develop links with other local agencies to ensure a systemic support network for families and be able to work in a flexible way; this will include occasional evening and weekend working. You will be given full training in the MST model and MST-CAN adaptation techniques as well as being supported throughout interventions by the MST-CAN Supervisor, MST-CAN Consultant and MST-CAN Therapists. You must be able to attend the MST 5-day training, MST-CAN 4-day training and 4-day trauma training which may be away from the locality and require overnight stays. If you enjoy working in a challenging yet rewarding role with ongoing learning and strong supervisory/team support, then this may be the job for you.
At Knowsley Council we will consider requests for flexible working. For most roles, the following types of flexibility are usually possible: flexible hours, working from home, compressed hours, part-time.
We promote applications from all sections of the community, regardless of background, belief, or identity, recognising the value that diversity brings to our organisation. We particularly welcome applications from individuals from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds and candidates with disabilities as we acknowledge their underrepresentation in our workforce.
We reserve the right to close this vacancy earlier than the specified date should we receive sufficient applicants.
At Knowsley we value our applicants and want them to feel well-informed and welcomed. If you have any questions about this specific job role or what it is like to work at Knowsley, please contact:
Sarah Ritson, MST-CAN Supervisor, on 07810054008 for an informal conversation
