Joint Waste Solutions Assistant Monitoring Officer (West)
Are you looking for an exciting new opportunity tackling environmental issues?
This role will help support the management of the joint waste collection and street cleansing contract, driving service improvements and helping residents to understand the recycling service, overcoming any issues they may experience and avoid contaminating their recycling.
At Joint Waste Solutions (JWS), there is an East operations team, managing the services in Elmbridge and Mole Valley and a West operations team who manage services for Surrey Heath and Woking Borough Councils.
In this position, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety of the public by checking the service providers’ staff are complying with the safe systems of work and by conducting crew checks. While ensuring civic pride through monitoring street cleaning, reporting defective levels of cleanliness, and following up to ensure the issue has been rectified.&nbsp;&nbsp;
The successful candidate will have experience of monitoring contracts and using performance management systems as well as experience of providing a good standard of customer care. An understanding of environmental issues as well as a knowledge of health and safety legislation is beneficial but not essential. You’ll need excellent verbal and written communications skills, be able to get involved in a range of projects and deliver them to deadline, as well as a methodological approach to information gathering, recording and reporting.
This vacancy with the West Operations team (Surrey Heath and Woking) is a permanent, part-time position of 22 hours with flexibility to fulfil these hours across the working week.

 About the Person&nbsp; The successful candidate will:&nbsp; • &nbsp; &nbsp;Hold a relevant professional health and safety qualification, such as the NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health or a Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent&nbsp; And have: • &nbsp; &nbsp;Good knowledge of the law and legal framework around health and safety at work requirements and enforcement; • &nbsp; &nbsp;Experience of inspecting and enforcing health and safety at work standards in premises; • &nbsp; &nbsp;Experience of investigating accidents and complaints regarding health and safety at work conditions and standards; • &nbsp; &nbsp;Experience of formal enforcement activity, ideally in a health and safety role &nbsp;e.g. drafting formal notices, gathering evidence etc; • &nbsp; &nbsp;Great communication skills; • &nbsp; &nbsp;An investigative and analytical approach; • &nbsp; &nbsp;Excellent time and case management skills; • &nbsp; &nbsp;Strong IT skills and be able to produce clear reports and case records; and, • &nbsp; &nbsp;An alignment with our organisational behaviours of being Positive, Supportive, Flexible and Innovative.

Billing and collection of Council Tax has never been more important here at Woking and we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic professional to join our Council Tax Team as a Revenue Officer on a permanent basis.
The Revenue Officer will be part of a team responsible for the billing, collection and recovery of Council Tax and Business Rates. You will be customer focused, empathetic but assertive and confident in communicating both verbally and in writing, in order to deliver successful outcomes for customers and for the Council.
The Team currently work on a rota basis which involves a combination of home and office working.
Reporting to the Revenues Team Leader, the Revenues Officer will support the Customer Service team by providing advice and support for Council Tax and Business Rates queries. The role will also help to maintain our records so that we can issue bills promptly and accurately. This will include:
· Setting up new accounts and closing old accounts
· Granting exemptions and discounts
· Taking payments
· Answering both written and verbal enquiries
· Assisting in activities relating to the billing and collection of Council Tax and Business Rates
The successful applicant will be flexible, adaptable and possess the ability to learn complex legislation. Previous experience of working within a Revenues/Customer Service environment is desirable although not essential, as full training is provided. You will be working from the office primarily to ensure you are supported into the role, until you have the skills and confidence to work independently.
