Job summary

The Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE’s) mission is to prevent people being killed, injured or made ill by work activities. We help businesses and people understand how the laws to keep people safe and well at work affect them and provide guidance on what to do. To help us achieve this we employ the largest concentration of health and safety experts in the country including frontline inspectors, specialists, policy delivery teams, economists, lawyers and administrators, all working together to help protect people.

HSE’s resource needs are varied and wide-ranging from administrative and corporate roles through to niche and often hard to fill specialist roles. These might be scientific or engineering roles and this variety makes our work in recruitment really unique and interesting.

Recruitment is HR’s current number one priority. We are responsible for identifying, planning and fulfilling HSE’s resource requirements to ensure that we have the right people with the right skills and at the right time. Alongside this, we are working to improve the service experience for candidates and vacancy managers, the time we take to hire new employees and to increase the diversity of our candidate pool.

Please note that occasional travel to our headquarters at Redgrave Court, Bootle will be required for meetings, training, and other business needs.

Due to the nature of the work involved this role is only suitable for full time working.

Job description

The government announced on 30 June 2025 that the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) is to become an Arm's Length Body (ALB) of Ministry for Housing, Communities, and Local Government (MHCLG) and will be moved out of HSE. This is the natural next step in the development of the regulator and was always a likely outcome once BSR was established.

It has been confirmed that the ALB will be a Non-crown, Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB), and as such its employees will be Public Servants, rather than Civil Servants.

Any successful candidates recruited to this vacancy will initially be onboarded to HSE, with a move to the new NDBP to be undertaken in due course

You will monitor and oversee the work of the Recruitment advisors during the campaign lifecycle. Additionally, you will work within a wider team that comprises of Assistant Recruitment Business Partners and Recruitment Business Partners, you may at times assist or be involved in larger recruitment campaigns and supporting other team members with more complex recruitment.

Hybrid Working

At HSE, we are proud to be able to offer our people the opportunity to work in a hybrid way which combines working from home and the office. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement, and your allocated office will be your contractual place of work.

There will be a requirement to travel to the office for various activities, e.g., collaborative working, supporting and training colleagues. If hybrid working is suitable for you and your role, you will be expected to attend the office, or other business-related site, for 60% of your working week.
