<h4>Job summary</h4>Forestry Commission - Forest Services - which the Technical Support Officer (Admin) will be part of, are the government's forestry experts facilitating delivery of government policy to protect, improve and expand England's woods and forests. We advise nationally and locally on how to unlock the full potential of woodlands and the forestry sector to protect, improve and expand England’s valuable woodland assets. The role can blended, with some time spent working at home and some days (minimum 2days/week) spent working in the office (York or Newcastle).</p><p>The Yorkshire and North East Area contains over 212,000 hectares of woodland ranging from important habitat networks of Ancient Woodlands through to large productive conifer forests. In the North East the predominant woodland type is conifer (64.5%) whereas in Yorkshire and the Humber broadleaves form the most significant component (41.5%).</p><p>This diverse range of woodland types extends over 4 National Parks and 3 Areas of Outstanding National Beauty and through the urban woodland resource is also connected to Leeds, Sheffield and Newcastle.</p><p>The Area Team operates from the Defra Office (Kings Pool, Foss House) in York with a further office located with the Environment Agency in Newcastle. Our work involves engagement with an enormous range of people and organisations, from small landowners and wood business through to large corporations and other public bodies.</p><p>We are seeking a dynamic individual who can learn quickly to provide admin and technical support to our Woodland Officers, Woodland Creation Officers and 5 Field Managers. </p><p><strong>Responsibilities</strong></p><p>1. <h4>Job summary</h4><p>The Government Commercial Function (GCF) is a cross-government network procuring or supporting the procurement of goods and services for the government. Within that sits the Commercial Capability Programme (CCP), which develops commercial and contract management capability across all government departments and is expanding into other public bodies too, making for a unique and exciting opportunity to join the organisation.</p><p><strong>Assistant Finance Manager (Faculty)</strong></p><p><strong>Role Overview:</strong></p><p>The award-winning Commercial and Contracts Capability Team is a division within the Government Commercial Function. It was formed in 2014/15 and was established to ensure all government departments bolstered their commercial and contract management capability to deliver the best value for the taxpayer. The role is based in the finance arm of the Commercial and Contracts Capability Team. This role predominately supports the Faculty Services pillar who are responsible for delivering commercial and contract management training packages to enable specialists to build capability and maximise the value they are getting for contracts in the public sector. The role however is flexible and there will be a need to cross cover equivalent duties within other areas of the finance team when business need permits. This may include for example supporting the People Services pillar who are responsible for providing a commercial specialist recruitment service and administering the pay and benefits of employees in the Government Commercial Organisation.</p><h4>Job description</h4><p><strong>Your responsibilities will include:</strong></p><ul><li>Undertake cost recovery – for the pillars that they are responsible for. They will ensure government and wider public sector bodies are billed promptly and accurately. Cost recovery is a critical and major part of the role.</li><li>Query Management - The postholder will follow up on any Cost recovery queries from government departments and strive to recover cash as quickly as possible with Cabinet Office guidelines.
