About the Borough

With a workforce of two hundred colleagues we're small enough to be friendly and large enough to give you scope to develop and progress your career. We are based in Sutton Town Centre with great transport links in and out of London. Our colleagues work and engage with residents in the borough and wider for our private sector colleagues.

At SHP our strength and depth lies primarily in the knowledge, experience and commitment of our colleagues; to deliver excellent services to residents. As a landlord organisation this means enabling families and households to be safe in their homes, sustain their tenancy and lead healthy and rewarding lives.

About the Service and Team

We are looking for a skilled professional to serve as a principal lead for a designated portfolio of the "Big 6" compliance workstreams, reporting directly to the Head of Building Safety and Compliance. This role holds delegated accountability, managing high-stakes professional liability and directing investment, risk assessment, and remedial strategies. The successful candidate will lead the delivery of multi-million-pound statutory compliance portfolios, driving contractor performance at a strategic level to ensure providers meet high-level KPIs and SLAs. While focusing on a specific portfolio, you will provide strategic cross-cover for the full "Big 6" suite (including Commercial Boiler Plants, LGSR, EICR, Water Safety, Active Fire, and Lifts) to ensure seamless organisational safety and resilience. You will exercise significant delegated budgetary authority for variations, payment validation, and long-term financial forecasting, acting as the technical architect for compliance-related procurement.

About the Role and Our Ideal Candidate

An ambitious and inspirational leader, you will foster a high-performance culture of technical accuracy and statutory accountability. You will have a proven track record of strategic contract and commercial leadership, with mastery in directing complex M&E, Facilities Management, or Statutory Compliance contracts (NEC, JCT, or TPC). It is essential that you possess an academic qualification (Degree, HNC, or equivalent) in Building Services, Engineering, Facilities Management, or a relevant technical discipline, alongside a Level 5 or 6 qualification in a relevant safety or technical field. Senior-level professional membership (e.g., MRICS, MCIBSE, MIWFM, or C.Build E) and safety leadership credentials like a NEBOSH National Certificate are highly desirable.

You must be passionate about excellent customer service, serving as the lead Subject Matter Expert (SME) for high-level resident and leaseholder enquiries. You will possess the confidence and professionalism to act as the final internal arbiter for complex resident complaints and lead high-stakes contractor disputes, including potential contract terminations. With a sophisticated understanding of leasehold service charging and Section 20 consultation requirements, you will ensure that technical data and consultation processes are legally robust to protect the organization's ability to recover significant capital and revenue costs. You will build and lead high-level partnerships with internal departments (Legal, Finance, Housing) and external regulators, driving the organisational "Safety First" agenda.

Commercially driven but with a "social heart," you will maintain the "Golden Thread" of compliance data, taking ownership of the technical validity of records within Northgate/NEC to ensure they are audit-ready. Operating with high operational autonomy, you will monitor and evaluate SHP's safety policies, design and enforce rigorous Health & Safety frameworks, and produce board-level reports to translate technical data into strategic insights. You must have the ability to manage multiple high-risk workstreams simultaneously, balancing immediate reactive demands with long-term statutory safety cycles. A valid driving licence, access to your own car for business use, and a satisfactory enhanced DBS check are required for this role.
