Are you a confident HR professional with a passion for people and process? We’re looking for a skilled and proactive HR and Recruitment Manager to lead our HR function during a 12-month maternity cover. This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a key leadership role within a supportive school environment, where your expertise will help shape recruitment strategies, support staff wellbeing, and ensure smooth HR operations across the school.
Start date: as soon as possible
Hours: 37.5 hours/week, Monday to Friday (between 08:00–17:00)
Salary: Point 21–31 (£30,024 – £37,505)
What You’ll Be Responsible For:
<ul>
<li>Oversight and management of operational HR administrative function in school</li>
<li>Full understanding of GDPR requirements regarding record keeping and recruitment</li>
<li>Plan and manage the administration and organisation of School-led recruitment processes and interviews and tracking recruitment of successful applicants through to start date</li>
</ul>
HR:
<ul>
<li>Prepare for and support formal HR meetings (sickness, grievance, disciplinary, etc.)</li>
<li>Advise on HR legislation, policy implementation and ensure compliance with GDPR</li>
<li>Maintain accurate personnel records and HR systems</li>
<li>Coordinate staff induction, probation, appraisals, and statutory training</li>
</ul>
Recruitment:
<ul>
<li>Lead recruitment planning and processes from vacancy to onboarding</li>
<li>Manage job advertising and ensure cost-effective recruitment strategies</li>
<li>Maintain and update the Single Central Register</li>
<li>Track recruitment targets and ensure safer recruitment practices</li>

The Payroll and HR service supports over 5000 employees across the services provided by the council. This covers the whole lifecycle from joining to leaving, payroll provision ensuring staff are paid accurately and on time and provision of pension support to all employees.
As a Pensions Assistant at Knowsley Council, you’ll provide administrative support for the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) and other relevant pension arrangements. You’ll be the first point of contact for pension-related queries, ensuring accurate and timely processing of pension data and contributions.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
<ul>
<li>Maintain and update pension records in line with statutory and scheme requirements</li>
<li>Process new starters, leavers, retirements, and changes affecting pension contributions</li>
<li>Liaise with the Merseyside Pension Fund and other external bodies</li>
<li>Respond to employee and stakeholder pension queries professionally and efficiently</li>
<li>Assist with monthly and year-end pension reporting and reconciliations</li>
<li>Support internal audits and compliance checks</li>
</ul>
We’re looking for someone who can demonstrate:
<ul>
<li>Experience in payroll or pensions administration (public sector experience desirable)</li>
<li>Strong attention to detail and data accuracy</li>
<li>Excellent communication and customer service skills</li>
<li>Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel</li>
<li>Ability to work independently and as part of a team</li>
<li>Knowledge of LGPS or similar pension schemes is an advantage</li>
<li>GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English</li>
<li>Relevant qualifications in payroll or pensions administration are desirable</li>
</ul>
