The Role
We are currently wanting to expand our Repairs and Maintenance Team. The post holder must have an NVQ level 3 or equivalent certificate in Plastering. The Repairs and Maintenance Department has the responsibility for carrying out responsive and planned maintenance works, and void management works to Lancaster City Council’s housing and non-housing stock. In order to improve service levels, meet performance targets and increase the working base, the section is recruiting a Plasterer/Tiler.
A full current driving licence is also essential. The post holder will be required to work a transient role around the district, as they will have to travel between locations and travel within the Council’s designated area. As a result, you will be required to sign up to the authorised external DVLA driving licence validation organisation that we use to manage and monitor our employees’ driving licence data.
The successful candidate will be subject to a basic clearance with the Disclosure &amp; Barring Service.
This post is permanent, based at White Lund Depot.
The post hours are 37 hours per week (Monday to Thursday, 8.00am to 4.30pm, and Friday, 8.00am to 3.30pm), however you are required for operational purposes to work 39 hours per week. As this is in excess of the standard 37-hour week, you will accrue 1 day’s leave for every 20 days worked.&nbsp;

Post: Maintenance Officer&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Ref: MO37
Hours – 37 Hours per week
Salary:&nbsp; £33,881.64 p.a.

The Council is looking for a professional, enthusiastic, and organised maintenance officer to join our in-house team. Reporting to the Deputy Maintenance Manager, you will undertake responsive and planned maintenance tasks within the Borough’s facilities.
You will liaise with colleagues and external contractors across a variety of sites and be able to work on your own initiative and remain calm under pressure. Good communication, numerical skills and working knowledge of the health and safety legislation is essential. &nbsp;
Experience of dealing directly with the public in a fast-paced environment you will be able to exercise initiative, take personal responsibility and resolve issues independently and as part of a team. Applicants should have strong interpersonal and good written communication skills.
The following experience and skills are also essential for this role:
<ul>
<li>Understanding of practical health and safety regulations</li>
<li>Experience of working on planned and reactive maintenance tasks</li>
<li>Experience working with / coordinating the work of contractors</li>
<li>Excellent communication skills</li>
</ul>
 A recognised Professional Mechanical / Electrical or Engineering qualification is desirable, and you should also have the ability to work successfully as part of a small team. The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in fluent English is essential in this post.&nbsp; This role requires a disclosure and barring service check.
