They hugely value the support they receive for their workload and well-being.</p>\n<p>Heathcote Deaf Support Department is a long-established resourced provision within the school that has seen increasing recognition within the Borough and beyond.  We are looking for an experienced Teacher to be our <strong>Head of Department - Deaf Support </strong>to teach our 20 deaf learners and ensure ambitious progress for these pupils. The successful candidate will be an experienced qualified teacher with ability to undertake intervention lessons with our deaf learners, with the support of our team of communication support workers who support the learning and provide British Sign Language (BSL) in support of this. We will consider both full time and part time applicants with an option to work 4 days a week if preferred.  The successful candidate will already hold ToD qualified status or be willing to undertake the mandatory qualification as part of the role.</p>\n<p>We aim to provide the best of both worlds, education alongside hearing peers as well as opportunities for specialist teaching, intervention and support as well as the benefits of a deaf peer group.  Day to day our deaf pupils are educated with their hearing peers, and gain access to the mainstream curriculum wherever and whenever possible.  Support staff, including communication support workers, from the DSD work with subject teachers to aid them to include the deaf learners in their lesson.
