What will you be doing?

There is an exciting opportunity to join the Flood and Water Management Team in Kent. The team leads KCC’s role as Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA), delivering local flood risk management across the county, working with partners to reduce the risk of flooding, improve the water environment and acting as a statutory consultee for surface water in planning applications.

This is a varied and interesting area of work, at the heart of how development happens across Kent. The team supports sustainable growth by providing expert advice on planning applications, contributing to policy and helping shape how flood risk and drainage are managed across the county.

We have a vacancy for a Junior Flood Risk Planning Officer to support the delivery of our planning consultee function. This role will involve reviewing planning applications and providing advice on surface water drainage and flood risk, as well as supporting responses to Local Plans, Strategic Flood Risk Assessments and other strategic documents. You will manage your own caseload, respond to enquiries from developers and planning authorities, and support senior officers where required.

There will also be opportunities to get involved in wider flood risk management work, including supporting the development of policy and guidance, raising awareness of flood risk issues and, where appropriate, contributing to projects across the county.

This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English/Welsh sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive a sufficient number of applications.
