What will you be doing?

We are looking for a General Practice Chartered Surveyor to join Kent County Council’s Estate Team, managing a diverse portfolio of income-generating property assets. You will provide professional advice on landlord and tenant matters, lease renewals, rent reviews, acquisitions, disposals, valuations, and wider estate management issues, helping to maximise asset performance and deliver value for money.

As part of the Tenanted Estate Team within Kent County Council’s Infrastructure Real Estate service, you will be responsible for the professional management of a diverse portfolio of income-generating and strategic property assets. Working in accordance with RICS professional standards and the Council’s Constitution, you will provide expert property advice on a broad range of estate management matters, including landlord and tenant issues, lease renewals, rent reviews, estate compliance, contractual enforcement, negotiations, property inspections, business rates, valuations, insurance matters, boundary disputes, defects in title, and public rights of way and village green applications. You will also support and deliver asset acquisitions and disposals and, where required, represent the Council in courts and tribunals.

The role offers the opportunity to implement the Council’s Estate Strategy across a varied portfolio, ensuring assets are managed proactively to maximise value, generate income, minimise liabilities, and support wider corporate objectives. Managing a range of complex cases, you will develop practical solutions and lead negotiations with tenants, agents, solicitors, and other stakeholders to protect the Council’s interests and deliver positive outcomes. Working collaboratively within a team of property professionals, you will help drive continuous improvement across the Tenanted Estate.

Working as part of the Infrastructure Real Estate Team at KCC offers lots of benefits:

  • A competitive salary
  • Flexible and home working. Whilst you will be required to attend the office, meetings, and site visits, we operate flexible hours and support working from home by arrangement with your manager.
  • Generous leave entitlement (30 days on appointment) and flexitime leave opportunity.
  • An excellent local Government contributory pension scheme.
  • Relocation assistance scheme (subject to eligibility requirements)
  • Kent Rewards – A scheme where employees have opportunities to obtain goods and services at a discount.
