About the role:
Horsham District Council is looking for a Vehicle Fitter to work as part of a team responsible for assisting with the maintenance of Horsham District Council vehicles, ensuring the work is carried out to required standards as set out by the Council and Transport Legislation.
As a Vehicle Fitter you will work within a team to ensure that the fleet of vehicles conform to current legislation and legal standards of roadworthiness, carrying out safety inspections to the vehicle fleet according to the Council’s fleet inspection programmes and report findings. You will be responsible in completing relevant documentation regarding vehicle maintenance and repairs ensuring accurate records are maintained.
Bank holiday working is contractual, except Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day. Where bank holidays are worked, pay is at the rate of triple time for each bank holiday. Saturday catch-up working is contractual at Christmas and New Year, paid at the rate of time and a half.
About you:
To succeed as a Vehicle Fitter, you will have experience of heavy mechanical engineering preferably within an LGV / PSV environment and you will&nbsp;&nbsp;have the ability to work as part of a team in an operational environment. You will need strong knowledge of Health and Safety legislation in an operational workshop environment and good time management skills to enable you to work to deadlines. You will need to participate in the training and learning of alternative fuelled vehicles, either battery, electric or hydrogen.

Council Vehicles
As this role requires the post holder to drive Council vehicles, periodic driving assessments will be required.

&nbsp; About the Role You will be working as part of an excellent team in a busy workshop near Redhill. The ability of the Council to provide the essential services expected by local residents is reliant on having good vehicle availability maintained to a very high standard. &nbsp;
You will be responsible for; • Carrying out repair and maintenance services to the council’s fleet of vehicles, plant and associated equipment, including our Grounds Maintenance equipment. • Ensuring that all maintenance and repair work is carried out to a high standard and that vehicles comply with DVSA standards and in accordance with the terms of the Councils Operators Licence at all times. • Ensuring that all relevant administration work is completed in a timely manner. &nbsp;
About the Person&nbsp; • You should have a good all round knowledge of Planned/Unplanned maintenance procedures relating to both heavy and light goods vehicles (Preferably Refuse Collection Vehicles). • Be able to cope in a physically demanding role • Ability to work within specified time frames and deadlines. &nbsp;
