<h4>Job summary</h4><p>The Defra group has a unique operating model delivering corporate services centrally to the core department (Core Defra) and four of its Arms Length Bodies (ALBs) – Environment Agency, Rural Payments Agency, Natural England, and the Animal and Plant Health Agency.</p><p>The Compliance and Financial Accounting Team lead on preparation of accounts for Defra’s ALBs, the core department (Core Defra) and the Defra group Accounts Report and Accounts (ARA).</p><p>This is a critical role leading the financial accounts team which supports Core Defra. The primary objective of the teams is to deliver an audited Core Defra Accounts following completion of the interim and final audit exercise each year, providing technical accounting advice, and being the key point of contact for the external auditors, the National Audit Office (NAO).</p><p>The postholder will provide strong leadership, directly managing one colleague and more widely supporting other areas of finance and the business with to respond to audit queries quickly and effectively. <h4>Job summary</h4>This is a Nationally based role<h4>Job description</h4><p>The Joint Extremism Unit (JEXU) is jointly run by HM Prisons and Probation Service (HMPPS) and the Home Office, Homeland Security Group (HSG) and is the strategic centre for all counter-terrorism work in HMPPS. It has oversight of delivery across the end-to-end offender management process, including probation. The unit drives closer working with strategic policy and law enforcement partners, with HMPPS retaining its responsibility for operational management decisions, and Home Office for counter-terrorism and counter-extremism policy across government.</p><p>The unit encompasses the entire policy making process, from strategy to operational delivery and consists of a mix of policy officials and operational staff across England and Wales. JEXU is currently introducing, reviewing, and developing a number of counter- terrorism policies, the design and implementation of which will require leadership, specialist knowledge and understanding of extremism and terrorism. This role also includes supporting any significant operational change at the Parole Board ensuring new processes are being implemented effectively and staff affected are engaged with these.</p><p>As Head of Operations, you will deputise for the Director of Operations.</p><p><strong>Main Duties and Scope of Responsibilities:</strong></p><p>• Part of the Senior Leadership Team.</p><p>• Actively participate in internal and external stakeholder engagement as required.</p><p>• Working in accordance with the Operational objectives in the Parole Board business plan.</p><p>• Responsibility for supporting Operations teams to deliver business activities in line with the Parole Board business plan and BAU Operations hub plan.</p><p>• Continuously supporting the members in concluding parole reviews and producing high quality Parole Board decisions in line with statutory timescales.</p><p>• Manage operational performance and delivery ensuring that effective secretariat support is provided to Parole Board members, to comply with business plan targets whilst maintaining the prisoner’s right to a fair hearing.</p><p>• Develop positive relationships with Parole Board members ensuring they are supported to make effective risk assessments that are rigorous, fair, and timely.</p><p>• Work with the Director of Operations to plan, forecast and monitor member resource and the Parole Board Members fees budget, in order to meet the workload demands.</p><p>• Achieving all performance measures for timeliness of Parole Board hearings and other Generic Parole Process, Recall, and internal processes.</p><p>• Working with other hubs at the Parole Board to bring about business change that improves operational processes and performance.</p><p>• Line management of x3 Senior Operations Managers to ensure that performance management processes are being followed.
