This role sits within a well defined pay band, offering clear progression as you grow your career at BCP. Family Intervention Practitioners

Location: Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole (BCP), Dorset

We are transitioning to deliver family help, and wish to ensure the right support, skills and expertise is available alongside the family help teams to deliver intensive support to children and families when they need it.

We are looking for passionate, skilled and relationship-focused workers with the necessary skills and experience to join us to deliver intensive work, helping to create lasting change for families across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

About the Role

As an intervention worker, you will use your skills and expertise to work directly with children (pre-birth to 17) and their families, delivering targeted, strengths-based interventions that support sustainable change.

You will provide focused pieces of intervention as part of a wider multi-agency plan, working alongside the allocated Family Help Practitioner (Lead Professional) who retains overall case responsibility.

Your work will take place in a range of settings including family homes, schools, and community environments, providing practical, hands-on support to address specific needs.

You will support children, young people and families facing a range of challenges, including:

  • Children on the edge of care
  • Exploitation
  • Domestic abuse
  • Drug and alcohol
  • Mental health

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Delivering time limited high-quality, evidence-based interventions tailored to identified family needs
  • Undertaking direct 1:1 and family-based work with children, young people and parents in their homes or in the community.
  • Delivering intensive pieces of work and providing analysis on capacity to change as a result of the intervention, which could include completion of specific written tasks, which could be used within a formal assessment.
  • Using tools and approaches to track progress and impact of interventions
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with families and partner agencies
  • Championing child-centred and anti-discriminatory practice
  • Engaging in reflective supervision and continuous professional development

Specialist Experience Required

We are seeking expertise in:

  • Child Exploitation (CSE/CCE)
  • Parenting interventions and assessments
  • Substance and alcohol misuse services
  • Domestic abuse services
  • Mental health and emotional wellbeing
  • Youth justice and offender-focused work (including AIMS3)

This expertise strengthens our multidisciplinary approach and improves outcomes for vulnerable children and families.

What We’re Looking For

  • NVQ Level 4 qualification (or equivalent relevant experience)
  • Experience of direct work with children, young people and families
  • Knowledge and Experience of delivering specific interventions to include Domestic Abuse, Exploitation, Parenting Support.
  • Ability to engage with Children and Young people of all ages, ensuring they are kept at the centre of all interventions and planning.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and statutory guidance
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills
  • Ability to deliver structured, outcome-focused interventions
  • A proactive, solution-focused approach
  • Commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children and families
  • Competent with IT systems such as Microsoft Programmes, MS Teams etc.
