Job description

NWPS is a well-established team that provides psychological services across two prison groups (Cumbria and Lancashire and Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire) and two probation regions (North West and Greater Manchester). Our regional approach to service delivery provides our team with a diverse range of work opportunities. These include assessment and intervention with adult male prisoners and training, consultancy and research in reception, training and resettlement prisons. In addition, we provide specialist clinical input to three PIPEs and a Progression Regime and deliver the OPD core offender management consultation service for our public and privately managed prisons. This means that there is a strong relational working ethos in our team of trainee and qualified psychologists. Our work is evolving and adapting in response to new demands which is evidenced in our developing community service, working closely with Probation and Approved Premises colleagues to support transitions for those serving indeterminate sentences, and providing clinical consultation and support to the Building Choices accredited intervention across our NW prisons.

The post holder(s) will be required to be involved in the following work areas: clinical consultation to the accredited intervention ‘Building Choices’, act as an establishment psychology lead (EPL) and/or be a point of contact for an NWPS/PSG workstream. They will also act as a co-ordinating (clinical) supervisor for trainees undertaking recognised training routes. They will have the opportunity to be involved in various workstreams across the region including, but not limited to, safety, research, training, and assessments. To be eligible, the post holder should have two years post registration experience at the point of taking up post. However, applications will be welcomed from psychologists who have a minimum of 18 months post registration experience; although they will not be able to formally take up the post until they have been registered for two years. The post requires travel to all sites across the NW region but the base location can be decided in consultation with the regional lead psychologist for successful candidates.
