Job summary

The Criminal Investigator, Unregistered Social Care will work in a team of other Criminal Investigators and Assistant Criminal Investigators to investigate those operating unregistered social care and bring about an appropriate disposal outcome, including caution, fine or prosecution.


The successful candidate will be an experienced criminal investigator with a wide range of investigatory skills.


You will need to be flexible, confident and show initiative from the outset. You must also be able to quickly familiarise yourself with the legislation that underpins criminal investigations into unregistered social care services.

Selection process details

Stage one: We will assess all applications against the essential qualifications criteria. Candidates who meet these criteria will progress to the next stage.


Stage two: We will assess progressed applications against the essential ability criteria and the following essential experience criteria. Candidates should describe how they meet the criteria in their employment history and focus on the first criteria in their statement of suitability. Candidates who meet these criteria will progress to the next stage.


  • Experience of conducting criminal investigations, with a proven track record of implementing a wide range of investigatory skills.
  • Proven experience of collating and evaluating intelligence and information from various sources.
  • Experience of recording and retaining evidence in a format that is evidentially admissible to support the investigative and prosecution process.
  • Proven experience of conducting interviews and taking statements in accordance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984.

Stage three: We may assess progressed applications against the desirable qualifications and experience criteria if the number of candidates who meet the benchmark exceed the number of interview slots available.

Stage four: We will invite the most suitable candidates to an assessment and interview.
