Finance Systems Accountant

Finance Systems Accountant

locationLondon Borough of Islington, London, UK
remoteOn-Site
ExpiresExpires: Expiring in less than 3 weeks
Finance
Full time
£55,506 - £63,695 per year

    Summary

    What you'll do

As our Finance Systems Accountant, you will be the subject-matter expert for our legacy finance systems, including SunSystems 6.4, Infor Query & Analysis 11.3, Professional Advantage products and PTX Cloud. You will take responsibility for keeping the SunSystems platform reliable, controlled and audit-ready throughout its remaining operational life.

Working within our specialist Finance Systems Team and reporting to the Head of Finance Systems, you will partner closely with colleagues across Finance and IT. This role sits at the heart of our transition to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, supporting month-end and year-end close, external audit, data migration and the eventual archiving and decommissioning of our legacy systems.

Your work will help ensure that the organisation continues to report, pay suppliers and close its books accurately while moving to a new finance platform. You will directly support accurate financial reporting, strong controls and audit readiness across an organisation managing approximately 70,000 homes.

    How you'll do it

    • Administer SunSystems and its associated reporting and add-on tools, maintaining user access, accounting periods, chart of accounts and cost-centre structures to agreed standards.
    • Monitor and reconcile data flowing between the legacy ledger, Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations and feeder systems, including rents, cash, payroll and agency payments.
    • Investigate and resolve interface, posting and reconciliation errors before they affect month-end or year-end close.
    • Support the delivery of the finance reporting calendar, ensuring journals and reconciliations are completed accurately, evidenced and on time.
    • Provide reliable reporting, data extracts and ad-hoc analysis to Finance leaders, business partners and analysts using SunSystems reporting and query tools.
    • Support internal and external audit by providing appropriate system access, extracts, control evidence and reconciliations to deadline.
    • Maintain alignment between legacy finance structures and the agreed Dynamics 365 chart of accounts, financial dimensions and master-data standards.
    • Support the extraction, mapping, validation and reconciliation of balances as data is migrated from legacy systems to Dynamics 365.
    • Log and resolve operational issues within agreed service levels, identifying and addressing root causes to reduce manual effort and strengthen controls.
    • Document system knowledge through clear runbooks, procedure notes and reconciliation guides, helping to reduce key-person dependency.
    • Work with IT and external suppliers to deliver changes safely through agreed change-control, risk and governance processes.
    • Help ensure electronic payments are processed accurately, securely and on time.

    The ideal candidate

We believe great service starts with great people, and we are committed to recruiting and developing passionate, enthusiastic, and talented individuals who can add value to our thriving organisation.

Pending confirmation of legislative changes, this role may require a qualification to demonstrate competence. If not already qualified, there may be an expectation to study towards a professional qualification.

    Essential:

    • Proven experience administering and operating a SunSystems accounting environment, including chart of accounts and cost-centre maintenance, period management and user-access controls.
    • Experience producing reports, extracting data and completing ad-hoc analysis using SunSystems reporting and query tools, such as Infor Query & Analysis.
    • Experience managing high-volume manual and automated interfaces between a general ledger and multiple feeder systems, including investigating posting and reconciliation errors.
    • Practical experience of a finance-system migration or transition, including data extraction, mapping, validation and reconciliation between legacy and target systems.
    • Working knowledge of core finance processes, including the general ledger, month-end and year-end close, reconciliations, fixed assets and sales ledger, and how these are controlled within an ERP system.
    • Experience working with large volumes of financial transactions and supporting audit activity by providing system access, data extracts and reconciliation evidence.
    • Holding, or actively studying towards, a CCAB-recognised accounting qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, ACA or CIPFA, supported by continuing professional development.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to trace transactions across integrated systems and identify the root cause of interface or posting failures.
    • The ability to produce clear system and process documentation in plain English.
    • A proven ability to meet tight deadlines during month-end, year-end and audit periods, manage competing priorities accurately and work with minimal supervision.
    • Clear communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across Finance, IT, external audit and third-party suppliers.

    Desirable:

    • Experience within a housing association, local authority or comparable not-for-profit organisation with complex property-related financial flows, such as rents, service charges, grants or component accounting.
    • Familiarity with Professional Advantage or similar SunSystems add-on tools, including bank reconciliation, inquiry or billing modules.
    • SQL skills, or a clear willingness to develop them, for data extraction, transformation and reporting.
    • Awareness of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, including the mapping of legacy data to charts of accounts, financial dimensions and procurement categories, or a willingness to learn this in the role.
