Job Description

Discover yourself in Lewisham where what you do makes a difference to our vibrant and culturally diverse communities!

We have a rich history of welcoming people from all over the world and are proud to be recognised as the UK’s first Borough of Sanctuary, for our work in championing the rights of refugees and migrants.

Join the London Borough of Lewisham as a Locksmith!

Imagine being the key to someone’s safety and peace of mind. As a locksmith, every day brings new challenges, from changing locks and securing void properties to restoring access for residents and ensuring homes remain safe and secure. This is an opportunity to use your skills to make a real difference to people’s lives while supporting the delivery of high-quality housing services across Lewisham. If you are ready for a rewarding and varied role, we would love to hear from you.

What’s the role?

To provide a responsive and high-quality locksmith service to tenants and housing stock within the social housing portfolio. The role involves securing properties, repairing and replacing locks, and ensuring tenant safety and property compliance.

What’s in it for you?

Excellent training and development opportunities, plus a range of benefits including:

  • Generous holiday allowance
  • Local Government Pension scheme
  • Flexible working and family friendly policies
  • Season ticket and bicycle loans
  • A range of staff discounts including local subsidised gym memberships
  • Supportive staff networks

What we’re looking for

We are seeking a skilled and experienced locksmith with a proven track record of delivering high-quality repairs and security services, ideally within a social housing or public sector environment. You will have a strong understanding of lock types, access control systems and security hardware, together with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

You will be confident communicating with residents, colleagues and contractors and committed to delivering excellent customer service. A City & Guilds and/or NVQ qualification in a relevant trade, or equivalent practical experience, is essential.

You will demonstrate a strong commitment to health and safety, equality, diversity and inclusion, and be willing to undertake training and adapt to the changing needs of the service.

Location

This role is primarily based across housing properties and council sites within the London Borough of Lewisham. On occasion, you may be required to work at locations outside the borough to meet service needs and work evenings and weekends.

Special conditions

  • Proven experience as a locksmith, ideally within social housing or the public sector, with knowledge of lock types, access control systems and security hardware.
  • Strong communication, customer service and teamwork skills, together with a good understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • City & Guilds and/or NVQ qualification, or equivalent experience within the building trades.
  • Good standard of literacy and numeracy.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, with a willingness to undertake training and adapt to changing service needs.
  • Full UK driving licence and a satisfactory DBS disclosure.

The recruitment process is anonymous, and we do not accept CVs.

Applicant handbook - please read the guidance in this handbook when applying. It is essential that you complete the application fully and that your supporting statement covers how you meet each of the person specification criteria listed.
