What will you be doing?

As a Public Health Practitioner, you will play a key role in delivering and shaping evidence-based public health programmes and interventions to eat and move for good health. You will support prevention and early intervention work, helping to improve outcomes for local communities.

You will:

  • Contribute to the design and delivery of health improvement initiatives, including those that support people to eat well, maintain a healthy weight and be physically active
  • Support strategic planning and whole-system approaches to improving public health, as guided by the recommendations of Health Needs Assessments
  • Help embed the value of prevention across council services
  • Work collaboratively with partners across health, social care, voluntary and community sectors
  • Provide technical and system-wide expertise within Adult Health Improvement - Healthy Weight and Physical Activity
  • Focus on developing partnerships across the system to improve the public health outcomes, particularly in relation to healthy weight, eating well and increase physical activity in adults
  • Contribute to work to increase uptake and engagement in lifestyle services, particularly among priority populations experiencing healthy inequalities

These roles offer a valuable opportunity to influence real change at a system level, working across organisations to tackle health inequalities and improve population health.

About you

We are looking for motivated individuals who bring:

  • Relevant experience in public health, health improvement or a related field
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice and population health approaches
  • An understanding of lifestyle risk factors such as diet, healthy weight and physical inactivity
  • Strong partnership working and communication skills
  • The ability to work both strategically and operationally
  • A passion for improving health outcomes and reducing inequalities

You will be part of a supportive team but also contribute to the wider public health agenda, bringing your expertise to cross-cutting work.
