Deputy Manager

Childcare
£35,412 - £44,075 per year
Location: Tile Cross, Birmingham
Contract: Full-time – shift work including weekends, bank holidays.

Bridgelands Children’s Home is looking for an inspiring and compassionate Deputy Home Manager with strong leadership and childcare experience. This is a unique opportunity to join a specialist long-stay home where children and young people thrive in a nurturing, person-centred environment.

Bridgelands provides tailored residential support to children with a range of complex needs. Our caring and inclusive environment promotes emotional wellbeing, confidence, and independence in every child we care for. With our service evolving and expanding, there’s never been a better time to grow your career with us. This is an additional position to strengthen our management team to aspire to achieving an OUTSTANDING Children’s Home.

All our Children's Homes are currently rated GOOD with Ofsted.

As Deputy Home Manager, you’ll support the Home Manager in leading the team, always ensuring the highest standards of care and safety:

•Oversee day-to-day operations of the home, including staffing, rota management, and budgets
•Supervise and support staff, delivering training and promoting professional development
•Implement care plans that reflect each child’s specific needs, wishes, and feelings
•Foster strong relationships with children, staff, parents, schools, health services, and external agencies
•Champion inclusive practices that affirm each child’s identity
•Monitor and report safeguarding, health and safety compliance, and quality standards
•Promote independence and daily living skills among young residents
•Facilitate children’s meetings to encourage involvement in shaping their care
•Ensure accurate record-keeping and contribute to planning, reviews, and assessments
•Ensure Ofsted, regulatory and quality standards compliance

We have been rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted, following a 2023 inspection. This is a fantastic achievement for Birmingham Children's Trust, with many positive highlights focusing on areas including the quality of staff leadership, partnership working, safeguarding and corporate parenting.

This is a hybrid role based in Birmingham, UK so you must have the correct right-to-work documents to work in the UK. Sadly, we do not support those who require sponsorship or on a VISA.

About you

We’re seeking someone with warmth, resilience, and leadership capability who can bring empathy and structure to our care environment:

You will have:

•QCF Level 3 in Children and Families (required)
•QCF Level 5 (or working towards) in leadership/residential care (required)
•Experience managing staff and working in residential childcare (essential)
•Proven ability to handle complex behaviours and emotionally challenging situations
•Skilled in communication (including use of visual and adaptive aids)
•Knowledge of care legislation and quality standards
•Commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practices
•Ability to work collaboratively with a wide network of professionals
•Available for shift work, weekends, public holidays.

If you’re a passionate, experienced childcare professional ready to help shape young lives while driving high standards of care, we’d love to hear from you.
