Environmental Case Officer

Environmental Case Officer

locationCoventry, UK
remoteOn-Site
ExpiresExpires: 04/08/2026
£28,598 - £34,434 per year

We value diverse perspectives and experiences and are striving to create a workplace culture that is inclusive, is accepting of all and is free from discrimination and bias.

As an Environmental Case Officer, you will play a key role in tackling waste mismanagement in HMOs across Coventry. You will carry out inspections, investigate complaints, gather evidence, interview witnesses and alleged offenders, and take enforcement action where necessary to secure compliance with legislation.

You will work directly with landlords, tenants, residents and partner agencies to resolve issues such as fly-tipping, accumulations of waste, vermin infestation, nuisance and anti-social behaviour arising from poor waste management practices. The role combines investigation, enforcement, problem solving and education, giving you the opportunity to improve neighbourhoods while helping landlords and tenants understand and meet their responsibilities.

No two days are the same. You may be carrying out inspections, preparing legal evidence, attending court, supporting multi-agency operations or providing advice to members of the public and elected members.

    Our Values

In line with our One Coventry Values, we want to ensure that our communities are represented across our workforce. A vital part of this is ensuring we are a truly inclusive organisation that encourages diversity in all respects, including diversity of thinking. We particularly welcome applicants from minority ethnic, LGBT+, disabled and neurodiverse communities to make a real difference to our residents so that equity and respect remains at the heart of everything we do.

    Our Values are:

    • Open and fair: We are fair, open, and transparent.
    • Nurture and develop: We help and encourage everyone to be their best and do their best.
    • Engage and empower: We talk and listen to others, working together as one.
    • Create and innovate: We embrace new ways of working to continuously improve.
    • Own and be accountable: We work together to deliver the best services for our residents.
    • Value and respect: We put diversity and inclusion at the heart of all we do.

    What is the job role?

We are looking for a proactive, motivated and resilient individual who enjoys solving problems and making a positive difference in local communities. You will be confident dealing with a wide range of people and able to communicate clearly, professionally and sensitively, both in person and in writing.

The successful candidate will have strong organisational and investigatory skills, be comfortable working independently and as part of a team, and be able to prioritise competing demands in a busy environment. We are particularly interested in people who can build positive working relationships, influence behaviour and take a practical approach to achieving compliance.

Experience in environmental health, housing, enforcement, community safety or a similar regulatory environment would be advantageous, although we also welcome applicants with transferable investigation, compliance or enforcement skills. You should be comfortable using IT systems and preparing accurate records and reports. GCSEs in English, Mathematics and a Science subject are essential, while a degree and previous enforcement experience would be beneficial.

The role involves regular outdoor work in all weather conditions and engagement with members of the public, so we are seeking someone who is adaptable, professional and committed to delivering a high-quality public service.

All candidates must have the Right to Work in the UK. We are currently not offering sponsorship for this role.
