About the role

Crawley Homes is recruiting two Building Maintenance Surveyors to join our Operations and Maintenance team. These are key technical roles supporting the delivery of high quality repairs, maintenance and improvement works across our housing stock and associated buildings.

As a Building Maintenance Surveyor, you will be responsible for the day to day responsive repairs and programmed inspection, diagnosis and management of building maintenance work across an allocated area. This includes domestic housing, leasehold properties, sheltered accommodation, hostels and public buildings.

You will:

  • carry out property inspections, surveys and defect diagnosis
  • prepare drawings, specifications and cost estimates
  • supervise contractors and administer building contracts
  • certify works and payments and manage quality on site
  • deal with customer enquiries, complaints and disrepair claims
  • support asset data updates and statutory compliance
  • work closely with housing officers, contractors and stakeholders

You may also cover void inspections, urgent works in other areas, mutual exchange reports and Sanctuary Scheme inspections when required.

What we are looking for
We are seeking experienced, customer focused surveyors who can work under pressure, manage multiple workstreams and communicate effectively with tenants, leaseholders, contractors and colleagues.

Essential requirements include:

  • strong building inspection and defect diagnosis skills across multiple trades
  • ability to prepare specifications, drawings and cost estimates
  • knowledge of housing repairs, maintenance and planned works
  • understanding of health and safety, building regulations and relevant legislation
  • good IT skills, including works ordering and asset management systems
  • full current UK driving licence

Qualifications and experience:

  • Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) building surveying certificate or working towards it
  • relevant construction, building surveying or property qualification
  • experience in building maintenance, repairs and contract supervision
  • budgetary control and certification experience

Experience in local authority or housing association maintenance and working within partnering contracts is desirable.

Why join Crawley Homes?
You’ll be joining a team committed to maintaining and improving homes, placing customers at the heart of the service, and supporting professional development within a collaborative environment.

Crawley is a great place to work, with a thriving business district and excellent transport connections including nearby Gatwick Airport. We are based in our modern Town Hall which opened in 2023 and is located a short walk from the town centre and railway station.
