Coventry City Council’s Migration Team supports newly arrived communities to build settled, independent lives in the city. Our work focuses on practical integration pathways, including employment, skills, education, English language support and access to local services, helping refugees, people seeking asylum and other migrant communities contribute to Coventry’s economic, civic and social life.

Join us in making Coventry a place people choose to live, learn, and work.

What is the job role?

We have received funding to deliver an exciting project in partnership with World Jewish Relief. The aim is to support the successful integration of refugee women who have made Coventry their home. Deliver engaging lessons tailored to learner needs, abilities, and aspirations within a supportive environment. The project aims to enable refugee women to:

  • Develop and improve their confidence and wellbeing
  • Recognise their skills and experience as valuable assets
  • Plan their future pathways and involvement in the community.
  • To achieve the above outcomes, the project will focus on delivering: one to one support; literacy and numeracy sessions; tailored ESOL; digital and financial literacy; mentoring as well as providing volunteering and work placement opportunities.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with experience of working with refugee women.

This is an 18-month fixed-term contract, 37 hours a week.

This post is open to female applicants only, as being female is deemed to be a Genuine Occupational Requirement in accordance with Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

Working with the Programme Delivery Manager and Project Manager you will be a natural self-starter with a can-do attitude.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

You will have excellent communication and written skills, be able to work on your own initiative, have a meticulous approach and attention to detail and be able to meet deadlines.

You will be able to monitor and organise interventions and delivery of sessions. You will be working with 30 women refugees to support their successful integration.

The right candidate will possess the following:

  • The ability to support women to overcome barriers to work effectively with the women on the project and keep them engaged and motivated giving additional support outside the sessions when required.
  • The ability to create, plan and deliver the curriculum for the literacy and numeracy classes and work with the Support Worker to get the women their accreditation for literacy and numeracy.
  • The ability to assess, evaluate and monitor the progress the women are making on the numeracy and literacy courses.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiating skills to positively challenge partners and have difficult conversations when needed.
  • Excellent ICT skills and be proficient in using a variety of packages in order to accurately record, analyse, monitor and review information.

  • Members of the Armed Forces and veterans
  • Are currently in care or have previously been in care
  • If you consider yourself to be disabled or if you have a long-term health condition
