Job Introduction

Job Title: UASC Worker (Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children)
Salary: £35,412-£39,152
Location: Lincoln (Leaving Care Office)
Closing Date: 16th August 2026
Interviews: Week beginning 31st August 2026

The Lincolnshire Leaving Care Service is currently seeking a motivated and empathetic individual to support our Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children and current UASC Lead within the service. The successful candidate would be based at our leaving care office in Lincoln.

Due to recent changes in immigration law in the UK we are unable to offer skilled worker visa sponsorship for this role as it does not meet the requirements.

About the Role

The leaving care service supports young people seeking asylum in the UK between the ages of 16-25. The local authority has a statutory duty to accommodate and support these young people as they navigate the asylum process and move through to independence. Our UASC lead role supports the leaving care service to understand the challenges faced by our young people, monitor and update the service on any asylum law changes and communicate with the home office and other service partners. You will also hold a small case load of UASC young people who are facing particular challenges with their asylum or at at risk of exploitation, where you will be able to offer more specialised one to one support.

You will be responsible for training and mentoring new members of the team in understanding our UASC role and responsibilities and promote good practice across the service.

Key Responsibilities

As our UASC worker the following responsibilities will be included as part of your role:

  • Managing and updating UASC relevant data with a specific focus on accommodation and asylum status.
  • To be the matrix lead for Accommodation across the leaving care service.
  • Working with our partners to provide effective communication, strategies and outcomes for our young people to promote safety and independence.
  • To have oversight and lead on MACE and exploration for our UASC young people.
  • Supporting the leaving care team and Child in Care teams to champion the voice and advocate for Unaccompanied Asylum seeking Children in partnership with the Participation.
  • To lead the training and implementation of UASC specific requirements within Pathway Plans and supervisions including Triple and Double planning aspects.
  • One to one work with young people to help them understand challenges they are facing, problem solve and build on independence skills.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions around UASC specific matters and relevant law changes.
  • To lead on developing and co-producing resources, services and plans to help meet the needs of unaccompanied children, with a specific focus on planning and sourcing move on accommodation after 18.
  • To have oversight of, and be a key person in, local and regional operational and strategic forums representing the Local Authority.
  • Supervising and quality assuring elements of practice undertaken by leaving care workers who support unaccompanied children and young people.

About You

Leaving Care is never easy for any young person, and this role can be demanding if young people are struggling. It is vital that any potential candidates can understand, recognise and manage risks and vulnerability to keep our young people safe. At the root of it all is the need to maintain a strong connection with young people and their network and giving them what they need to be safe, happy and successful adults.
