Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The Post

Brent is seeking compassionate, committed, and community-minded individuals to join our dedicated network of Shared Lives Carers.

Make a real difference in someone’s life – and your community.

Shared Lives carers offer a safe, welcoming home for adults who need support to live independently. Whether it’s short breaks or long-term living, you provide companionship, support, and care in a family environment.

Shared Lives Carers support adults aged 18 and over who need extra support to live independently. This may include people with:

  • Learning disabilities
  • Physical disabilities
  • Mental health needs
  • Dementia
  • Support needs after hospital discharge

You might provide care for a few hours, a weekend, or move in long-term – it’s flexible and shaped around you!

Brent Shared Lives carers are paid for their time and expenses, and for many, this role has become a full-time career.

We provide full training, regular support and opportunities to meet other carers.

For many carers, they find this is more than a job – it’s a way of life that’s deeply rewarding.

The Person

Our carers are dedicated to making a difference to the lives of those they support.

You don’t need formal care experience – just the right values and a willingness to share your home and some of your passions. To become a carer, you must:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • live in the UK full-time or have leave to remain
  • have time and space to support someone either full or part-time
  • have a spare bedroom (if offering overnight support)
  • be supported by your household.
  • Caring, patient, and supportive
  • Committed to providing consistent care and stability

You will be asked to complete an assessment, which includes background checks, interviews, training, and home visits.

What We Offer:

  • Earn a generous amount of £437.68 - £596.18 per adult (depending on needs and experience)
  • Free training and continuous professional development
  • Peer support groups and networking opportunities
  • Invitations to social events, celebration days, and recognition awards
