Wandsworth Sensory Support Service is a leading provider of education for children and young people aged 0 – 25 years with a sensory impairment. The Service has excellent facilities and resources, including both primary and secondary resources bases, and is part of a supportive and nurturing working environment.

We are seeking a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf to provide specialist teaching and support for d/Deaf children and young people within the Primary Deaf and Hearing Support Centre and across Wandsworth Sensory Support. The role focuses on improving access to learning, promoting progress and positive outcomes, and working closely with families, schools and other professionals to meet pupils’ needs effectively.

About the role

As a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf, you will be part of of Wandsworth Primary Deaf and Hearing Support Centre (DHSC) and is based at Sellincourt School.

You will deliver high quality specialist teaching to support d/Deaf children and young people (CYP) and their families, promoting equal access to education, sustained progress, and positive outcomes that enable pupils to achieve their full potential.

The role operates under the direction of the Primary DHSC Lead and requires flexibility to support across the wider Wandsworth Sensory Support (WSS), in line with service priorities and need.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Qualified Teacher Status (UK).
  • Additional Postgraduate Diploma in Deaf Education or willingness to train.
  • Knowledge and experience of current legislation with reference to deaf children and young people.
  • Understanding of the National Curriculum and the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Ability to work within a specialist hearing resource provision based in a mainstream school.

If you do not hold the mandatory qualification, you must have completed a statutory induction period and be willing to undertake the part-time, two-year Teacher of the Deaf training.
